Richard Petrie had come in at 7 and had played Berties Musings some nice straight shots, he was looking Richard Petrie – a most comfortable on 12* but the innings had declined memorable debut for Sydenham to 140/8 when I came in to join him. There were still 2 balls to go in the 40th over, so Richard Way back in the mists of time, well the 1985-86 wandered over to me and easily assuming the role cricket season to be exact, the Sydenham senior of senior partner, said "there's still 10 overs to go, team had started the season well – and by so let's make sure we use up these overs. Further good news beckoned there with a couple of overs to go, we'll throw the also, as after Christmas we were to be bolstered bat a bit". by the arrival of two hot shot cricketers from the Shirley Boys High 1st X1.

They were future New Zealand reps Darrin ("Dibble") Murray and Richard ("Snake") Petrie, whose reputations from their school teams and Canterbury age group rep teams had certainly preceded them. And we were very fortunate to get them, as obviously most SBHS 1st X1 lads went straight to East Shirley when they left school – who naturally welcomed players like , Craig McMillan and Gary Stead straight from the A man who always shares his opinions then impressive SBHS production line.
