SUSTAINABILITY . Plastic and cartons recycling

You should have boxes for: n Glass bottles and jars n Newspaper, magazines, junk mail and telephone directories including Yellow Pages n All plastics,* food and drinks cartons, tins and cans and aerosols.

(*Except cling film or expanded foam- like plastic. Hard plastics, such as toys, can be recycled).

Please remember to wash and squash your plastics, cans and cartons as they take up a lot of space in your boxes, and our vehicles. Improvements to Squashing also reduces the number of boxes you need and the number of times the vehicle waste collections has to tip each day.

From Monday 13 June your brown (organic waste) bin will be collected weekly, with your green (refuse) bin collected fortnightly. You can have as many recycling boxes as you need. The step will also help maximise the Council’s recycling rate. Introducing weekly organic waste collections will allow the council to save money and respond to residents’ Contact us to order a new box 01923 776611 or requests that food waste is collected weekly. [email protected] What you told us In the spring 2010 edition of Three Rivers Times we asked residents for their views on our services. Although 84% of residents placed their residual waste bin out on a weekly basis, only 16% said that their bin was full each week, with 56% either half full or less. Your Myth busting We are NOT reducing your service. We are STILL collecting from your house the SAME brown number of times as we did before and you will get your food waste collected weekly. This means that more food waste can be composted rather than going to landfill. Although we are not collecting your rubbish bin weekly there isn’t much that should go bin is into this bin anyway. COMMUNITY SAFETY Police move welcomed Policing in Rickmansworth is now in the heart of the town after officers moved into Three Rivers House, the District Council offices in Northway. Mike Marren, Chief Inspector for Three Rivers, says: “We are proud to share offices with the District Council. Like everyone else in these economically challenged times, we are having to make savings. “This is about saving people and front–line services, not buildings. Through this move we have moved policing back into the heart of the community.” Three Rivers Chief Executive, Steven Halls, adds: “This move not only increases the hours of the Police’s front desk service, but strengthens our partnership with them and saves back office money that can be spent on front- line policing and community safety.” Public opening times 10am and 5.30pm Mon –Thurs and 10am – 5pm Friday.
