Piazza Malatesta, Rimini Borgo San Giuliano "Fellini Nostalgia" After crossing the old town center on Corso d'Augusto as far as the Ponte di Tiberio, take a look at the Marecchia river park to the north and at the port canal to the south, then enter the medieval district of San Giuliano. A series of narrow alleys form a labyrinth in which even the locals often get lost. There are shops and cafès on one side and the other side is flanked by solemn palazzi. At one end of the piazza, you can see the majestic Neo- Classical Teatro Comunale, inaugurated by Giuseppe Verdi in 1857. The piazza also has a new and attractive appearance and is lit by early 20th Century style lighting. Corso d'Augusto, Rimini Antica Pescheria di Piazza Cavour "One of the Most Beautiful Places in the City" On the left of the Piazza Cavour is la Pescheria Vecchia, one of the most picturesque places in the city; it was built in 1747 according to the designs of the architect Buonamici. It has large marble tables on which fish was once sold, now these slabs are used by artists and local market traders. by Cicciotto Corso d'Augusto, Rimini Arch of Augustus "Ancient Roman Landmark" The Arch of Augustus is a city-gate built in 27 BCE and is one of the oldest surviving Roman arches. The structure is unusually large compared to other Roman arches, which has lead some historians to believe the gate was not meant to be easily closed so it wasn't used for defense.
