Uniform Requirements for Highlands Latin School

Discontinued from 12-13:  Boys- navy pants  Lower School Girls- navy sweaters Dress or Performance Uniforms: Students are required to wear these items for ceremonies, pictures, and performances. Required items may also be worn every day. All dress uniform items must be purchased from Parker. Daily Options: These items add flexibility to the daily uniform. They are not to be worn for performances. While some items may be purchased elsewhere, they must be indistinguishable from the ones sold at Parker.

GENERAL  Everything that is worn, and the manner in which it is worn, should complement the overall appearance of the uniform, not compete with or detract from it. In cases where a question arises, decisions will be left to the discretion of the HLS administration.  Uniforms should be clean, well-fitting, in good repair, and the proper length. As children grow, parents should let out hems or replace items.  Shirts should be tucked in. (exception: vented blouses for 7-12 girls)  Additional non-uniform clothing, including spirit wear, may not be worn in classrooms; only uniform sweaters and vests in class.  Plain white t-shirts or camisoles may be worn under shirts and blouses. Undershirts for girls should not be visible at the neckline.  Girls should wear minimal, simple jewelry. Stud earrings or small hoops, chains with a small pendant, and/or watch are acceptable.  Boys who wear a simple gold or silver chain, with or without a pendant, must keep it under their shirts.  Cloth, leather or plastic jewelry is not allowed.  Hair accessories must match the uniform (white, red, navy, black, brown, or HLS hounds’ tooth), and not be excessive (large bows, headbands wider than 1”, no elastic, bandeau style, etc). Hair should be neat and out of eyes.  Boys’ hair should be neatly groomed, above mid-ear, off the face, and off the collar. No facial hair.  Hair should not be dyed in unnatural colors.  Conservative makeup may be worn by girls in grade 7-12. Nail polish should be a traditional, conservative color, or clear.  Girls’ skirts can be no shorter than 1” above the knee. Parker will not sell or alter skirts shorter than 1” above the knee.  If in doubt about any item, bring it by the school office for approval. BOYS’ SHOES Boys JK-12  Material: leather or suede (no cloth)  Color: solid black, dark brown (no tan)  Style: loafer, oxford, mocs - no athletic style shoes. Students must be able to tie shoes with laces.  Sole: The sole may be rubber, if desired, for safety and comfort. The sole may not be lighter than the shoe.  The shoes available at Parker School Uniforms, are the accepted styles. You may purchase any brand of shoe, provided they look the same as those sold at Parker.

GIRLS’ SHOES Girls’ Classes JK-6  Material: leather (no cloth or patent leather)  Color: solid black  Style: Classic Mary Janes - no athletic, slipper, ballet-flats.  Sole: The sole may be rubber, if desired, for safety and comfort.  The shoes available at Parker School Uniforms, are the accepted styles. You may purchase any brand of shoe, provided they look the same as those mentioned above.

Girls’ Classes 7-12  Material: leather or suede (no cloth or patent leather)  Color: black  Style: loafer, slip-on, or Mary Jane, like the ones at Parker.  Heel: 1/2 in. than 11/2 in. No slipper-style or ballet flats.
