ABSTRACT The family Neritidae has representatives in tropical and subtropical regions that occur in a variety of environments, and its known fossil record dates back to the late Cretaceous. However there have been few studies of molecular phylogeny in this family. We performed a phylogenetic reconstruction of the family Neritidae using the COI (722 bp) and the 16S rRNA (559 bp) regions of the mitochondrial genome. Neighbor-joining, maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference were performed. The best phylogenetic reconstruction was obtained using the COI region, and we consider it an appropriate marker for phylogenetic studies within the group. Consensus analysis (COI +16S rRNA) generally obtained the same tree topologies and confirmed that the genus Nerita is monophyletic. The consensus analysis using parsimony recovered a monophyletic group consisting of the genera Neritina , Septaria , Theodoxus , Puperita , and Clithon , while in the Bayesian analyses Theodoxus is separated from the other genera. -

MBP PHASE 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY NISC Executive Summary Prepared by the National Invasive Species Council On March 7th, 2007 the U.S. Department of Navy (DoN) issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an “Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)/Overseas Environmental Impact Statement (OEIS)” for the “Relocation of U.S. Marine Corps Forces to Guam, Enhancement of Infrastructure and Logistic Capabilities, Improvement of Pier/Waterfront Infrastructure for Transient U.S. Navy Nuclear Aircraft Carrier (CVN) at Naval Base Guam, and Placement of a U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) Task Force in Guam”. This relocation effort has become known as the “build-up”. In considering some of the environmental consequences of such an undertaking, it quickly became apparent that one of the primary regional concerns of such a move was the potential for unintentional movement of invasive species to new locations in the region. Guam has already suffered the eradication of many of its native species due to the introduction of brown treesnakes and many other invasive plants, animals and pathogens cause tremendous damage to its economy and marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. DoN, in consultation and concurrence with relevant federal and territorial regulatory entities, determined that there was a need to develop a biosecurity plan to address these concerns. -

Download Alien Species in Norway
Alien species in Norway – with the Norwegian Black List 2012 Alien species in Norway – with the Norwegian Black List 2012 presents an overview of ecological impact assessments of alien species which reproduce in Norwegian territories. The assessments are based upon a new and semi- quantitative set of criteria, where the species’ invasion potential and ecological effect are considered. The work has been carried out by 11 groups of experts who have treated ca. 2500 species. Impact assessments have been made for 1180 alien species which reproduce in Norwegian territories and for 134 species which might arrive in Norway with the aid of humans in the future – so called ‘door knockers’. A total of 106 species are categorised as having a severe impact, 111 species as having a high impact, 198 species as having a potentially high impact, 399 species as having a low impact, and 366 species as having no known impact in Norwegian nature. In addition, species inform- ation has been gathered for 1071 alien species which do not reproduce on the Norwegian mainland and territorial waters, and 69 non-reproducing alien species observed in Svalbard.
