The Offciant begins the service with this or some other appointed sentence of Scripture. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Confession of Sin

Then the Offciant says to the people Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infnite goodness and mercy.

Silence is kept.

Offciant and People together, all kneeling Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. The Priest alone stands and says Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

A deacon or lay person using the preceding form remains kneeling, and substitutes “us” for “you” and “our” for “your.”

In the tender compassion of our God the dawn from on high shall break upon us. 1 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people and set them free. 2 He has raised up for us a mighty savior, born of the house of his servant . 3 Through his holy prophets he promised of old, that he would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us. 4 He promised to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant. 5 This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, The Lesson from the

The noble fellowship of prophets praise you. The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. 6 Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims you; Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide. 7 You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal Son of the Father. 8 When you became man to set us free you did not shun the Virgin’s womb. 9 You overcame the sting of death and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. 10You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that you will come and be our judge. 11Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood, 12and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

The Apostles’ Creed

Offciant and People together, all standing I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucifed, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy , the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
