GIANTTIGER.COM | MEDIA KIT 1 Milestones 1961 On May 3rd, Gordon Reid, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, opened his first store as “Ottawa’s first self-serve discount centre” at 98 George Street in the Byward Market. The business was launched with a $15,000 investment and first year sales were $139,781. 1968 Another simple idea was incorporated in the Giant Tiger formula – franchising. The first franchised store opened in Maniwaki, Quebec. 1971 10th Anniversary! 6 stores in total with a combined annual sales volume of $4,482,284. 1987 Tiger Trucking began operation, with the introduction of Giant Tiger trucks delivering merchandise from a growing warehouse to 43 Giant Tiger stores. 1990 Giant Tiger established a clothing and footwear buying office in Montreal. 1996 Giant Tiger purchased and took possession of a 270,000 sq ft distribution centre. Home offices were moved to our new home on Walkley Road in Ottawa. Giant Tiger opens prototype store adjacent to new Home Office location. 2016 Giant Tiger turned 55! 2018 Giant Tiger opens a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Johnstown, Ontario. The new facility covers approximately 600,000 sq ft and features the first Symbotic system in Canada, the latest in shipping and warehousing technology. 2019 Giant Tiger opens its 250th store in Atholville, New Brunswick! 2021 Giant Tiger opens its latest new store in Ottawa, Ontario!
