Sewing Basics - Perfect Placement with the Clothsetter? By Nancy Fiedler

The Clothsetter provides perfect placement of embroidery every time. It also allows you to create large designs that require multiple hoopings with and precision. There is a Clothsetter available for every single needle embroidery machine.

Clothsetter Calibration: Before using the Clothsetter, the first time you will need to calibrate it to your machine. 1. Place a 12” square of cotton and stabilizer in the hoop that is closest to 5” x 5”. (140mm x 140mm) 2. Locate the Calibration design built into your machine. 3. Attach the hoop to the machine and embroider the crosshair. 4. Remove the hoop from the machine. DO NOT REMOVE THE FABRIC FROM THE HOOP. 5. Attach the hoop to the bracket on the Clothsetter and bring down the positioning arm.

6. Loosen the screws on the bracket and move the hoop until the crosshairs on the positioning arm and the fabric line up. 7. Tighten the screws so that the bracket does not move.

Perfect Placement: 1. Determine the position of the selected embroidery design. 2. Mark the center position for the design with cross hairs. 3. Attach the outer ring of the hoop on the Clothsetter and lay the fabric with the template on top. 4. Bring down the positioning arm and align the crosshairs.

5. Insert the inner ring of the hoop and tighten the screw. 6. Place the hoop on the machine. The needle should point to the center point of the crosshair. If necessary, use the jog keys on the machine to move the needle to the exact position.

7. Embroider the design.

Perfect Placement with Templates: 1. At the computer, open the embroidery software that came with your machine or Janome Digitizer and Digitizer Jr. 2. Open the desired design and from the Start Menu, locate Print. Refer to the Help section of your software for more information on set up and printing a template.

3. Place a sheet of Jenny Haskins Template Magic® in your printer and print a full size template with center cross hairs.

4. the excess then remove the backing from the template material and place the design in the desired position on the fabric. 5. Attach the outer ring of the hoop on the Clothsetter, lay the fabric with template on the top. 6. Bring down the positioning arm and align the crosshairs. 7. Insert the inner ring of the hoop and tighten the screw, 8. Place the hoop on the machine. The needle should point to the center point of the crosshair. If necessary, use the jog keys on the machine to move the needle to the exact position. 9. Remove the paper template and embroider. 10. The template material may be used several times. Note: Templates can also be created with Artistic software.

Multiple Hooping layouts are easily planned in Janome Digitizer and Digitizer Jr. The software will allow you to layout the project, place the hoops and print multiple templates for easy placement. Refer to the online User Guide in the Digitizer software.
