shooting. When Neal allegedly came to the window of the car, witnesses reported seeing him and Bryant struggle over the gun Neal pulled out. In Neal’s version of the story, it was Brown who exited the vehicle, came around to the window, and shot Bryant with a separate gun, ultimately killing him. Neal also told police that Brown had told him when to approach and commit the armed robbery, the arrest report states. Witnesses said Bryant had Xanax, cannabis and money on him and that they had seen Bryant selling cannabis to someone before he was shot. One witness also stated he had a firearm of his own on his person at the time of his death, the arrest report states. Brown has a long history of arrests in the area, including an attempted homicide in 2008 and multiple assault and theft-related charges, among other minor arrests in the last sever- al years. In 2015 Brown was arrested for threatening 11-year-old Jeremiah Taylor, who had testi- fied against Brown’s friend, Daquan “Bobo” Butts, in an attempted homicide case. Butts was accused of shooting Taylor during an argument over basketball in September 2014, where he also shot another man. Taylor was riding his bike nearby when he was struck by a stray bullet. The other victim, Kendall Clark, refused to cooperate with police and Butts was not charged in his shooting. Because of Taylor’s testimony, Butts was sentenced to life in prison. A week following the trial Brown threatened Taylor’s life, as well as a prosecutor in the case. Brown turned himself into police about a month after the arrest warrant was issued. He took a plea deal in September 2015. He is currently in jail with no bond. Page 9 Sunday April 23, 2017 Sports YOUTHBriefs BASEBALL By Dean Smith Academy in Lake County.
