Such was the case when an email was received in the President’s Suggestion Box recently. The timing of the email coincides with the request for proposal (RFP) for a rebranding project of Cottey College. The composer of the suggestion box email made the point that with the transition to a four-year institution and working toward becoming a member of NAIA, it might be time to consider a rebranding of the College inclusive of its athletic programs. We couldn’t agree more! In the fall of 2015, a proposal was made to the P.E.O. Foundation by Marketing and Strategic Communication for a rebranding project that was accepted by the Foundation. The last time Cottey closely examined its brand was 1986, and the Cottey of today is very different from the Cottey of 30 years ago. We were a two-year college with no baccalaureate programming. Athletic programs were limited, and the demographics of prospective students were very different than they are today. Cottey has the opportunity to develop a brand to differentiate it from other colleges. We want this brand to be distinctive in the minds of prospective students, parents, P.E.O.s, donors, and alumnae. I invite faculty, staff and students to share their opinions through participation in focus groups in the coming months as Marketing begins qualitative research to determine our brand position in the minds of our primary constituency – prospective students. We need individuals who feel passionately about Cottey and are willing to become active participants in the process. As we move forward, remember that a successful rebranding involves overhauling key messages and shifting a campus culture -- not just changing a name or a logo. There will be no interruption in your ability to use the website. What you will notice is a different appearance on most first and second tier pages. The process of moving information (migration) from approximately 500 pages on the old website to the new site is ongoing and will be completed in late March. What this means is that as you navigate through the pages that have not been migrated, you will be redirected to the old pages where you will recognize the former design. We invite you to spend time on the site exploring the improved navigation, bright color palette, and large pictures all designed to easily lead prospective students to information about applying to Cottey. As you explore the site, we ask that requests for changes/corrections be limited to only the most critical issues until after the migration of pages is completed in late March. As you can imagine, our webmaster Donna Lenharth has her hands full in completing the transition of nearly 500 pages! The Marketing Department has a Power Point presentation about the new website that will be presented at two special meetings in the coming weeks to those interested in asking questions and learning more about the site. We also look forward to sharing with you plans for additional tools to be added to the site in the coming months. The presentations will be held on the following dates and times. Tuesday, January 31 , 11:30 a.m., Room 203, Judy and Glenn Rogers Fine Arts Building Thursday, February 2 , 12 noon, Room 203, Judy and Glenn Rogers Fine Arts Building Attendees may also bring their lunches to these informational sessions. Marketing sincerely appreciates the input from the campus community provided in focus groups last spring that helped guide this process. COMING SOON Friday, February 3 @ 7:30 p.m. Center for the Arts, Auditorium The year is 1963 and C.S. Lewis, the famous British author, is hosting a group of American writers at his home near Oxford. They are about to experience a captivating evening with a man whose engaging conversation and spontaneous humor made him one of the great raconteurs of his day. Seated in his living room and in front of a warm fire, he recalls the people and events that inspired his thoughts and shaped his life; his friendship with J. R. R. Tolkien; why he nearly abandoned The Chronicles of Narnia; how he came to embrace Christianity; and the American woman who turned his life upside down. Described by critics as “Extraordinary!” “A Must See!” and “A Master Class,” An Evening With C.S. Lewis has proved again and again to be an enthralling theatrical experience and one that has led many thousands to discover (or rediscover) the continuing impact of a man who died over 50 years ago and whose collected works made him one of the literary giants of the twentieth century.
