Udinese Calcio v Panathinaikos FC Friuli - Udine Wednesday, 14 September 2005 - 20:45 (CET) Group stage - Group C - Matchday 1 Match officials Referee Olegário Benquerença (POR) Assistant referees Bertino Miranda (POR), Serafim Nogueira (POR) Fourth official Paulo Batista (POR) UEFA delegate Kazimierz Oleszek (POL) Match preview Cosmi calm ahead of competition bow Udinese Calcio coach Serse Cosmi could barely contain his excitement ahead of his side's first-ever UEFA Champions League match at home to Panathinaikos FC on Wednesday evening. Emotional time "It's a very emotional time," he said. "I feel very proud. Just coming to the stadium and watching everything being set up, you get the feeling we are experiencing something extraordinary. We feel we've come very far and now we want to do well for everyone associated with the club." Cosmi's enthusiasm is understandable. Three months ago, the amiable Italian was coaching Genoa 1893 in Serie B and now he is preparing to test himself against the leading lights of European football. Boyhood dreams "I remember when I was a boy watching [FC] Internazionale [Milano] and AC Milan and the contribution they made - a winning contribution – and I dreamt of being a player. Then, as time goes by, you moderate your expectations and hope to make it as a manager. I've worked my way up from the bottom and I hope other lower- league managers will see that we can make it to the highest level." But if Cosmi appears happy with his lot, he also pointed out that his players are not just there to make up the numbers.

  • Iraq National Football Team
Iraq National Team HOME RESULTS & FIXTURES VIDEOS FORUMS MORE The Liions off Mesopottamiia United Arab Emirates vs. Iraq (FIFA World Cup Qualifier): Preview Iraq will travel to Abu Dhabi to face the United Arab Emirates in Matchday 5 of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on 15 November. Iraq are currently sitting in fifth place in their group with just three points, while UAE are one place ahead of them on six. Iraq losing their opening three games has put them in a position where this UAE game is a must-win encounter. A draw or defeat will all but signal an end to Iraq's slim hopes of making it to Russia. UAE have already proven themselves to be a strong team when they won 2-1 against Japan away from home. They narrowly lost to Australia before comfortably dispatching of Thailand, but their most recent qualifier, a 3-0 loss to Saudi Arabia, would suggest that the UAE are beatable if the Iraqis show up on the day. UAE's main player is of course Omar Abdulrahman, one of Asia's best players. "Amoory" has already proven to be a threat to Iraq in the past, scoring against Iraq in the 2013 Gulf Cup final and making an assist in their 2015 Asian Cup encounter. In fact, Iraq haven't won or even drawn against UAE since their 1-0 win in the 2011 Asian Cup, almost six years ago, when Younis Mahmoud's deflected shot won Iraq the game in the last minute. Their task will be made easier by the absence of UAE midfielder Amer Abdulrahman though, who has been ruled out for up to two weeks.

  • Statistical Assessment of Soccer Players
Statistical Assessment of Soccer Players by Mohammad-Amin Nabavi A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario © 2019 Mohammad-Amin Nabavi ABSTRACT This thesis examines the use of neural network modelling and ordinal logistic regression on a single season of data (2015-16) to score or rank soccer players. These scores and ranks are then compared with ones from FIFA EASports that are based on a much more extensive data set that includes more variables as well as historical data. Using repeated measures one-way ANOVA and subsequent multiple comparison testing, we conclude that a neural network model with ten nodes in one hidden layer is able to generate scores statistically similar to FIFA EASports, while ordinal logistic regression cannot. We confirm this result be also examining the ranks obtained by both the neural network model and the ordinal logistic regression model. Spearman rank correlations are also examined and confirm that a neural network with 10 nodes in one hidden layer also generates ranks statistically similar to FIFA EASports. We also demonstrate the use of association rule mining on one team’s data from the 2015-16 season to identify players and combinations thereof that are associated with winning (or not winning) a match. Analyses are based on data from the Italian Serie A League 2015-2016 season. ii Acknowledgements These past couple of years have proven to be the hardest period of my life so far.

Udinese Calcio v FC Barcelona PRESS KIT Friuli, Udine Wednesday, 7 December 2005 - 20:45 CET Group C - Matchday 6 With FC Barcelona safely confirmed as Group C winners, attention focuses on whether Udinese Calcio can qualify for the knockout stages in their first UEFA Champions League season. Udinese are also looking for revenge, having suffered a 4-1 defeat at the Camp Nou on Matchday 2, being victims of a masterclass from Ronaldinho, the newly-crowned European Footballer of the Year, who scored a hat-trick. Point enough for Udinese •A point would take Udinese through as runners-up, while they could only afford a defeat if Werder Bremen do not win at home to Panathinaikos FC. Should Udinese lose and Panathinaikos win, the Serie A team would go through on head-to-head record, the same rule by which they would lose out to Bremen should both the German team and Barcelona gain victory, in which case Udinese would enter the UEFA Cup Round of 32. First meeting •The 27 September encounter between the clubs was their first meeting in UEFA club competition, and it was also Udinese's first official encounter with a Spanish club. •Ronaldinho got Barça going with a 13th-minute free-kick before Felipe briefly interrupted the Brazilian magician's one-man show with a 24th-minute leveller. Once the home talisman had restored the lead, however, there was no way back for the Italian side and Ronaldinho completed the scoring from the spot, by which time Deco had also converted a stunning set-piece and Vidigal had seen red for Udinese.
