He made his debut on 28th October 2000 in a 8v1 win away to Kirkcaldy YM. Darrin scored with a header, the first of many goals. THE TEAM for the record was as follows M.Graham, B.Kenny, S,O’Neill, J.Mitchell, J.Wright, L.Dair, B.Smith, D.Sinclair, Darrin, C.Smart, M.Thomson At the end of his debut season he won his first junior trophy a 2 v 0 win against Oakley Utd in the Interbrew Cup. 2002/03 saw the reorganisation of the East Region Junior League with The Haws taking there place in the new Super League. During that first season ‘Haws’ strike force of Daz, Smarty and Sash went on to terrorize opposing defences, they scoring a total of 77 goals between them. Daz notching on 21 occasions. During his first 5 seasons he won a total of 11 Trophies. In all he won 17 trophies including The Haws first ever East Of Scotland Cup in 2015 . To quote Daz . “no bad for a bang average player” ( tongue in cheek) . In 2008 he suffered a serious leg break, and for a long time it was touch and go whether he would ever play again. But being the man he is, he battled back to fitness although it took time to get his confidence back. He returned to his best form and became a major player once more. It was in 2011 that Jock moved him back into the defence that for many at the club is where Daz excelled, arguably playing the best and most consistent football of his career. As a defender he had everything - strength , bravery , tackling ability, excellent in the air, cool under pressure, but above all he could play and pass well - all in all a clever footballer as well as a skilful one. During his 15 seasons he could play anywhere, making him a managers dream. He became one of the most consistent and reliable performers at the Haws and very much respected by all who played alongside him. During his time at the club he had the great honour of being club Captain. Sadly at the end of 2014/15 season he decided to retire after 15 fantastic years. He accepted a coaching post at the club last season and when Kevin asked him to help out by playing it was just “Aye nae probs” - he played on 24 occasions ,and who can say that is the end of his playing days . To quote a line , Who Is The Daddy? It’s got to be Darrin Wright Thanks for the memories. HAWS MAN The Wright Way Name: Darrin James Wright Place of Birth: Edinburgh 22nd September 1978 Married: Yes to Louise for nearly 14 years, With son Kieran (20) and twins Sasha & Masson (9) Hometown: Rosyth Occupation: Director of Wrightline Roadmarkings Signed for the Haws: October 2000 Previous Clubs: Alloa U18’s, Rosyth 21’s, East Fife the I signed for the Haws. Favourite Team: Has to be Glasgow Rangers, still have a season ticket today. Favourite Ground: Tough call between Ibrox and Keirs Park!! Best Thing About Junior Football: I enjoy the roughness of the games and the flying tackles that go on unpunished by the refs. The bus journeys with the team and the banter with the boys. What Makes a Good Junior Player: You need to be strong, hard working and be committed. Many junior players could be playing at a higher level there are a lot of decent players. Take advice from senior players and most of all enjoy yourself. Best you have played with I have played with So many great players over the years its hard to choose but a few stand out, Martyn Thomson for his goals throughout the years making him haws all time top goal scorer which is a great achievement. Lee Dair, John Mitchell, Brian Kenny and wee Smarty to name but a few. Most Difficult Opponent:The most difficult opponents for me would have to be the lads at training, when I first joined the haws I was just a young laddie, I found it tough playing against all the very experienced boys, John Mitchell, Brian Kenny etc who were very good, hard experi- enced players. Most Memorable Match You played in: The most memorable matches have to be the ones where we won league titles and trophies. But the ones that stick in my mind are the Cup final which we went on to win 2-1 in extra time with me scoring the winner. (And being in the paper with my Rosyth Rocket vest on!!) Also the semi final against Carnoustie, still hurts to this day, we were winning 3-0 at half time with 3 cracking goals to then go on and loose the game 4-3. Most Memorable Goal Scored: Back to the Scottish Cup when I scored the winning goal in extra time. Also the penalty in the East of Scotland cup final shoot out as we went on to win the tro- phy for the first time. I’ve scored that many goals (140)? I can’t remember them all! When You First Played Junior Did You Expect to Last as Long? I never expected to still be playing at nearly 40 but there’s still life in the old legs yet! When I broke my leg in 3 places there was a time I thought I would never play again. I just love playing football, I was lost when I retired for a while. I also enjoy watching the wee man, Masson playing on a Saturday who loves to come and watch me play at the Haws too. Biggest Influence on Your Career: This would have to be Jock Finlayson who I played under for 15 great years and was always there for me, I could call him night or day. Louise and the kids have always supported me and still do, alt- hough Louise is never happy missing out on a few holidays or having to come home on a Friday for a game on Satur- day! What Will You Cherish Most About Your Haws Career: I will cherish nearly all my memories as a Hill of Beath player as most of them are happy times. I have made some great friends throughout my career and still keep in touch with many ex-players. Playing 10 years along side one of my best mates, Stewart Haddow was a great time, some of the car/bus journeys we had together were tremendous times, we enjoyed every minute. I have been lucky to be in- volved with such a great club and to be named captain for 6/7 years was an honour, to win leagues and cup finals is something I am proud of, not bad for a bang average junior player that kicked his way through some matches .
