Defendant, Guy Tobias LeGrande, through counsel, files this Motion for Appropriate Relief pursuant to the Racial Justice Act (HA), N.C. Gen. Stat. $$ 15A-2010 to 15A-2012, the Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, and Art. I, $9 1, 19, 24, 26, and 27 of the North Carolina Constitution. Under the RJA and constitutional law, Defendant, who is currently under a sentence of death, is entitled to a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. INTRODUCTION 1. The evidence set out in this Motion establishes that race is a significant factor in North Carolina's system of capital punishment. The comprehensive, scientific study presented here demonstrates that race is a significant factor in capital proceedings. Prosecutors across the state strike eligible black and other racial minority venire members at double the rate they strike eligible white venire members and individuals who kill whites have significantly increased odds of receiving a death sentence than those who kill blacks or other racial minorities. 2. The evidence set out in this Motion also establishes that race is an extraordinarily significant factor in capital proceedings in the 20Ih ~rosecutorialDistrict. The disparity seen between the prosecutors' strikes of eligible black and other racial minority venire members compared to eligible white venire members is the highest of any district in North Carolina that has more than one person currently on death row.

THE ROLE OF GATEKEEPERS IN MUSIC SELECTION IN 1960s TOP 40 RADIO By Leonard A. O’Kelly The decision to play (or not to play) certain songs on the radio can have financial ramifications for performers and for radio stations alike in the form of ratings and revenue. This study considers the theory of gatekeeping at the individual level, paired with industry factors such as advertising, music industry promotion, and payola to explain how radio stations determined which songs to play. An analysis of playlists from large-market Top 40 radio stations and small-market stations within the larger stations’ coverage areas from the 1960s will determine the direction of spread of song titles and the time frame for the spread of music, shedding light on how radio program directors (gatekeepers) may have been influenced in their decisions. By comparing this data with national charts, it may also be possible to determine whether or not local stations had any influence over the national trend. The role of industry trade publications such as Billboard and The Gavin Report are considered, and the rise of the broadcast consultant as a gatekeeper is explored. This study will also analyze the discrepancy in song selection with respect to race and gender as compared to national measures of popularity.

    "You Really Got Me": A Complete Charting Odyssey- How The Kinks Blew The Doors Off the British Invasion Against Fierce Competition And Scored Their First U.S. Hit Mark Teehan May 2016 Introduction As a powerful, iconic record, "You Really Got Me" both saved and launched the Kinks' illustrious career. As a musical statement, it was the embodiment of so many forces and emotions: rage, defiance, rebellion, perseverance, and survival. Most of all, it marked the culmination of a monumental struggle by the band to have the song recorded in a manner so that it sounded as they envisioned- original and reflective of their working-class roots, the way it did in their live concerts. Musically, "You Really Got Me" represented a dichotomy of sorts: its controlled, monolithic bass-heavy, strong percussive sound was built around a monster riff that stood in sharp contrast to the wild abandon and distorted, gritty tone of Dave Davies' unique, memorable guitar solo. This essay will initially set the stage by summarizing the creation of "You Really Got Me," its recording, its sonic characteristics, and progress on the UK charts. Afterwards, we will shift to the article's primary focus of analyzing the complex charting of the Kinks' landmark record in the U.S. Using the extensive array of surviving local radio station music surveys from pivotal markets across America, this writer will analyze the intricate connection between those local surveys and the national charts as they affected "You Really Got Me". Furthermore, in order to provide valuable insight into the American pop music industry of the mid-60's and a broader perspective into the commercial progress of the Kinks' record in the U.S., this writer will cover on a secondary basis the charting of another single from a rival British group.

Hundreds of Shotgun’s colleagues reminisced with him as a star-studded dais told stories. JHANI KAYE, Tom’s former boss at K-EARTH, put together an incredibly fascinating 13-minute video that traced his life from gawking youngster watching a San Diego DJ in a glass radio booth to his recent successes.
