By this, St Francis meant that his disciples should live out the Gospel by their lives. Their lives should mirror the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Example, he held, was better than precept. This was silent evangelization. Or as is popularly held – actions speak louder than words. So, St Francis and his followers took the vow of poverty – and walked without shoes or socks throughout Europe preach- ing the Gospel. They were known as “cappuccini scalzi” – preachers without socks. 2014 SUPREME CONVENTION THEME BASKET RAFFLE

The beautiful city of Columbus, Ohio, will be the site for the 2014 Supreme Convention for the Knights of St John International and Ladies’ Auxiliary, Knights of St. John International. The “Theme Basket Raffle” has been a very successful endeavor during our past conventions. It was recommended that the “Theme Basket Raffle” once again be held during the 2014 convention. The profits from this fundraiser will help to defer expenses for the convention. The Committee is encouraging and inviting all Commandaries and Auxiliaries to participate in this effort and to donate at least one “Theme Basket” for this project. The cost of each basket should not be more than $40.00 to $50.00. The goal is to make your basket attractive enough to sell as many raffle tickets as possible. We are also welcoming monetary donations in lieu of “Theme Baskets”. All baskets should be delivered to the convention by Tuesday, July 22, 2014. The following is a list of suggestions for your “Theme Baskets”: Bath and Body Basket Romance Basket Candle Basket Snack Basket Wine and Cheese Basket Imported Beers Basket Sport Snack Basket Assorted Chocolates Basket Hair Products State/Country Basket Religious Basket NFL/NBA Theme Baskets Game Basket Coffee/Tea Basket (Assortment of Adult or Children games) The baskets will be displayed at the convention and the raffle tickets will be sold during the week of the convention. Each sheet of raffle tickets will cost $5.00 or 5 sheets for $20.00. Drawings will be held Saturday afternoon and winning numbers posted to aid winners in picking up baskets. The winning ticket numbers will be displayed throughout the convention center. Let’s work together to make our “2014 Theme Basket Raffle” another huge success! To obtain a “Theme Basket” commitment form, or have any questions or need additional information, please contact: Connie Schafhausen, Chairperson Phone: (740) 965-8274 email: [email protected]

Sum- marizing his experiences in Nige- ria in the December issue of KSJI NEWS JOURNAL, Gen. Dale said “All throughout the area we visited, we also saw the concrete examples of the works and acts of charity that each Commandery, District and Grand Commandery were working on”. He cited some examples to as- terisk his remarks and encouraged the Supreme Commandery to en- deavour to “support a visit to our West African brothers as time and finances allow”. We are convinced that if this sub- mission is promoted, a sight to be- hold will certainly be the building All the Bishops present passing by brother Umeorji’s body after housing the Awka Grand Command- ery which was adjudged by the Past Mass.
