Plantas descritas originalmente de Honduras y sus nomenclaturas equivalentes actuales Cyril H. Nelson Sutherland1 Resumen: Se hace una relación de 755 nombres de plantas descritas originalmente de Honduras y sus equivalencias nomenclaturales aceptadas actualmente. De éstas, 263 son endémicas de Honduras, entre las cuales Haptanthus hazlettii Goldberg & C. Nelson y Phrygilanthus nudus A. Molina R. se consideran extintas. Se propone Haptanthaceae como una familia nueva para acomodar a Haptanthus hazlettii. Asimismo se propone la combinación nueva Spermacoce fruticosa (Standl.) Govaerts var. pubescens (Standl. & L.O. Williams) C. Nelson. Palabras clave: Descripción, equivalencias, nomenclatura, taxonomía. Abstract: A relation is made of 755 names of plants originally described from Honduras, and their presently accepted nomenclatural equivalences. Of these, 263 are endemic to Honduras, among which, Haptanthus hazlettii Goldberg & C. Nelson and Phrygilanthus nudus A. Molina R. are considered extinct. Haptanthaceae is proposed as a new family in order to accommodate Haptanthus hazlettii. Also, the new combination Spermacoce fruticosa (Standl.) Govaerts var. pubescens (Standl. & L.O. Williams) C. E-mail: Abstract: The Rondônia Natural Resources Management Project (PLANAFLORO) was a strategic program developed in partnership between the Brazilian Government and The World Bank in 1992, with the purpose of stimulating the sustainable development and protection of the Amazon in the state of Rondônia. More than a decade after the PLANAFORO program concluded, the aim of the present work is to recover and share the information from the long-abandoned plant collections made during the project’s ecological-economic zoning phase. Most of the material analyzed was sterile, but the fertile voucher specimens recovered are listed here. The material examined represents 378 species in 234 genera and 76 families of angiosperms. Some 8 genera, 68 species, 3 subspecies and 1 variety are new records for Rondônia State. It is our intention that this information will stimulate future studies and contribute to a better understanding and more effective conservation of the plant diversity in the southwestern Amazon of Brazil. Read Full License Page 1/22 Abstract Chromosome set duplication (polyploidy) drives instantaneous speciation and shifts in ecology for angiosperms, and is frequently observed in neo-endemic species. However, the extent to which chromosome set duplication is associated with endemism throughout the owering plants has not been determined. We hypothesised that across the angiosperms polyploidy is more frequent and more pronounced (higher evident ploidy levels) for recent endemics. Data on chromosome counts, molecular dating and distribution for 4210 species belonging to the major clades of angiosperms were mined from literature-based databases. As all clades include diploid taxa, with polyploids representing a possible ‘upper limit’ to the number of chromosomes over evolutionary time, upper boundary regression was used to investigate the relationship between the number of chromosomes and time since taxon divergence, both across clades and separately for families, with endemic and non-endemic species compared. A signicant negative exponential relationship between the number of chromosomes and taxon age was 2 evident across angiosperm clades (R adj=0.48 with endemics and non-endemics considered together, 2 2 R adj=0.46 for endemics; R adj=0.44 for non-endemics; p ≤0.0001 in all cases), which was three times stronger for endemics (decay constant=0.12, cf. -

Taxonomia do gênero Macropeplus Perkins (Monimiaceae, Monimioideae)* Inês da Silva Santos1 Ariane Luna Peixoto2 RESUMO A família Monimiaceae engloba 30 gêneros e cerca de 400 espécies de árvores ou arbustos distribuídos pelas regiões tropicais e subtropicais, especialmente do Hemisfério Sul. Está representada no Brasil por seis gêneros e cerca de 95 espécies, sendo os gêneros mais ricos em espécies Mollinedia e Siparuna. Macropeplus, gênero endêmico do Brasil, ocorre em áreas florestadas nos campos rupestres, cerrados e mata atlântica, acima de 1.000 m de altitude, nos estados da Bahia, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Distrito Federal, Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. Desde a sua criação, no final do século passado, e até o presente estudo era considerado monoespecífico e compreendendo oito variedades. O presente estudo reconhece quatro táxons, que foram elevados à categoria de espécie: Macropeplus dentatus (Perkins) I.Santos & Peixoto, M. friburgensis (Perkins) I.Santos & Peixoto, M. ligustrinus (Tul.) Perkins e M. schwackeanus (Perkins) I.Santos & Peixoto. As espécies são distintas predominantemente com base na margem e consistência das folhas bem como na coloração que adquirem quando secas, tanto em campo quanto em laboratório; utilizou-se também, como caracteres diferenciais, comprimento do pedúnculo, do pedicelo, dos lobos florais e o número de estames. M. ligustrinus é a espécie de maior área de distribuição, ocorrendo na Bahia, Minas Gerais, Goiás e Distrito Federal; M. friburgensis é exclusiva da Serra do Mar, no Rio de Janeiro, ocorrendo nos municípios de Nova Friburgo e Teresópolis; M. schwackeanus é endêmica de Minas Gerais, ocorrendo na Serra de Ouro Preto e Serra do Caparaó; M. -
