Dedication 2012

Samantha Hinds passed away in March at the young age of 22. Samantha began Year 7 at Dominic College in 2002, completing Year 10 in Guzman House in 2005.

Samantha progressed to to complete Years 11 and 12 and found her passion for cooking. She embraced this interest with great gusto, commencing a course at Drysdale House, but was sadly cut short by her declining health.

I like that the older students look after you and everyone just gets along. Austin York, Year 7

K-6 It just so happens that green is my favourite colour and so being placed into Guzman House was just the thing for me.

St Dominic Guzman was a compassionate, inspirational character; we learn that wherever he went he showed himself in word and deed to be a man of the Gospel. He showed great strength of spirit, would often walk barefoot as much as 35 miles a day to preach the Gospel taking frequent hardships cheerfully.

Ellie, Room 1 Writing because I like writing. I also loved the Wally Day. Lucas, Room 1 Where’s Wally – the Having fun – like ‘golden time’ and working in our boys of Room 2. books (like Maths). Year 3 2012 has been an exciting adventure through the natural environment, space, Tasmanian Aboriginal lands and the Aiden Waller crossing the George Risdon and Isabella world of Japanese art. Students have had wonderful hands- rope bridge at Molesworth Roberts reading their letters on experiences, been on eye-opening excursions through Environment Centre. from their pen pals in Samoa. the bush, and have worked through problems using critical thinking and real life modelling.

We have uncovered future town planners, artists, journalists and scientists and have seen students grow and develop in confidence and go out of their comfort zones to experience new things.

Students have thrived as they’ve worked throughout the year to be respectful, responsible, and honest learners, meeting and exceeding our school expectations.

Year 4 2012 has been about challenging ourselves to improve in some way. For some of us this was with our school work, for others becoming independent, Where’s Wally? and for some, learning to socialise in a positive manner.

Some days this journey was easily attained but other days it required us to ‘step outside our comfort zone’ and create new beliefs in our abilities and talents. Stations of the Cross. We’re so pleased we took the next step in our learning, behaviour and attitude to our studies. All of us have progressed in different ways and now are looking forward to the transition to Year 5.
