Cowie, Class of '91, will be inducted along with six others in formal ceremonies on Friday, Oct. 21 at the Curry Student Cen­ ter. Cowie left NU with the Huskies' defensive scoring records and an All-American certificate to enjoy 13-year career in professional hockey. He came to the Huskies from the St. Mike's Junior "B" Buzzers where he was voted the team's MVP in 1987. A 1986 graduate of Saint Michaels College Boys School in North York, Ontario he also played baseball, basketball, and volleyball. His freshman season of 1987-88 was a spectacular one for Northeastern. The Huskies finished 21-13-3, won the Beanpot and the Hockey East Tournament, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. As a rookie he was the team's top scoring defensemen with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. In Cowie's sophomore year, his scoring talents blossomed with seven goals and 34 assists for 41 points. His talents earned him ac­ colades such as All-New England and All-Hockey East. That year, NU was third in Hockey East with an 18-16-2 record but was upset in the league playoffs. NU was 16-19-2 in Cowie's third season and NU was again eliminated from the league playoffs. Cowie had his best scoring season with 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points. The awards again piled in, All-New England, All-Hockey East and most importantly All-America. His senior year of 1990-'91 he was elected captain but the Huskies struggled to an 8-25-2 record. Cowie had another strong year with 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points. For the third-straight year he was voted All-New England and All-Hockey East. His career totals of 46 goals and 96 assists for 142 points made him the 12th-leading scorer in NU history and the second highest for defensemen. His 18 goals that season were the best ever by an NU blueliner, as was his career 46 goals. Cowie closed out his Northeastern career by being selected the 1991 recipient of the Herb Gallagher Award as NU's finest senior male scholar-athlete. A steady Dean's List student with a double Accounting Major plus All-America honors is a combination hard to beat. He went on to have a long and distinguished career in professional hockey. After three years of toiling in the AHL, he joined the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL for the seasons of 1994-95 and 1995-96. From 1999 to 2004 he played in Europe with stops in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Finland. Currently, Cowie is real estate in Scottsdale, Ari zona. He is married to the former Holly Wickstrom, '88, and has two children: four-year­ old Alexandra and three-year-old Brooke. He is the treasurer of the NHL Alums in Phoenix and coaches midget hockey. He is the second consecutive Hobey winner from Hockey East, as Boston College’s Johnny Gaudreau claimed the prize in 2014. Eichel becomes the first freshman winner of the Hobey Baker since Maine’sPaul Kariya won the award in 1993 after scoring 100 points (25g, 75a) in his rookie campaign for the Black Bears. Eichel’s 70 points this year (26g, 44a) is the highest total for an NCAA rookie since Kariya. He has helped lead the Boston University Terriers to the NCAA National Championship game for the first time since 2009, scoring two goals and adding an assist in Thursday night’s national semifinal, a 5-3 win over North Dakota at TD Garden in Boston. Eichel leads the NCAA in nearly every offensive category, pacing the nation in assists (44), points (70), assists per game (1.13), points per game (1.79), power-play points (23), and plus-minus (plus-51) in 39 games played.

    jOHN G. BAYNES John G. Baynes has been elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplish­ ments in the field of athletic training. Baynes. a native of Pennsylvania and Peace Corps veteran ofEl Salva­ dor, was for the last three decades the University's head athletic trainer. serving 22 women's and men's varsity sports and a comprehensive Jack Baynes intramurals program. He and his wife. the former Connie Trask, recently moved to Ariwna, where Baynes will provide athletic training services to the Santa Rita secondary school system. Since arriving at Northeastern as an assistant trainer in 1971. Baynes has become synonymous with Husky athletics, as well as athletic training as a discipline. After just one full season at Northeastern, he was promoted to bead the A.T. staff by Dr. George Lane. Since then he would serve four Lane Health Center directors and three athletic directors. In very short time. Baynes asserted himself as a primary cog in the development of varsity athletics at NU. and as a leader in the National Athletic Trainers Association (NAT A). After accepting an invitation from the National Health and Physical Education Association in 1975 to lecture on the subject throughout Mexico, he was selected to the training staff for the Pan American Games that summer. In 1980, he served on the staff of the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. His meteoric rise through the NAT A rank-and-t1le continued as both a new decade and a severe health threat approached. Seemingly minor problems with his neck surfaced in 1983, and, as symptoms lingered into 1985, he underwent further examinations at Mass.

Gaudette, a Hobey Baker Top Ten finalist, was one of the top players in the nation from start to finish in 2017-18, finishing the campaign with 60 points on 30 goals and 30 assists. Gaudette, the 2018 Hockey East Player of the Year and Walter Brown Award winner, leads the NCAA in both overall scoring and total goals, becoming just the 11th player in Northeastern history to score 30 goals in a season and the seventh in the NCAA since the 2012-13 season.

    ATHLETIC REPUBLIC PLAYER OF THE YEAR This honor is awarded by the head coaches to one player among those nominated for consideration. A player receiving this recognition has demonstrated superior play and leadership for his team. Senior forward Bobby Butler in the seventh UNH student-athlete to garner this honor and is the fourth Wildcat forward to earn the distinction, along with Jason Krog (199), Darren Haydar (2002) and Steve Saviano (2004). Butler was a First-Team All-American and First-Team Hockey East All-Star as he ranked second in the nation with 29 goals. Boston College and New Hampshire players have earned 12 of the last 14 Hockey East Player of the Year honors, with former Terrier goalie John Curry breaking that trend in 2006-07 and NU goalie Brad Thiessen in 2008-09.
