Press Release Changes in Polling Stations for Some PRESS RELEASE CHANGES IN POLLING STATIONS FOR SOME VOTERS IN JALAN BESAR AND TAMPINES GROUP REPRESENTATION CONSTITUENCIES Eligible voters in the contested constituencies began receiving their Poll Cards since Friday, 28 April 2006. The Poll Card, which is white, indicates the address of the Polling Station which the voter is to go to vote. It also contains information about the voter’s Electoral Division and Polling District. Voters should bring their poll cards and their identity cards/passports when they go to vote. Voters in Polling Districts JB-JB11, JB-JB21, JB-JB25 and TM-TM13 will, however, receive fresh Poll Cards from 2 May 2006 onwards, stating a change in their Polling Stations. The change is made for the convenience of most voters in these areas. It will allow them to cast their votes at a Polling Station nearer to their homes. When they go to vote, voters in these affected Polling Districts should instead bring along the second poll cards they receive from tomorrow onwards, together with their identity cards/passports. Voters in Polling District JB-JB11 of Jalan Besar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) should go to the Polling Station located at HDB Block 9 Void Deck at St. George’s Road to cast their votes, instead of Bendemeer Primary School (B) as indicated in their white Poll Cards. Polling District JB-JB11 refers to the area bounded by Central Expressway, Jalan Toa Payoh, Serangoon Road, St. George’s Road, St. Francis Road and St. Wilfred Road. Voters in Polling District JB-JB21 of Jalan Besar GRC should go to the Polling Station located at Kallang Community Club at Boon Keng Road to cast their votes, instead of HDB Block 6 Void Deck at Boon Keng Road as indicated in their white Poll Cards. Polling District JB-JB21 refers to the area bounded by Serangoon Road, Sungei Whompoe, Kalang River, Sims Avenue, Kallang Road, Lavendar Street, Kallang Bahru and Boon Keng Road. Voters in Polling District JB-JB25 of Jalan Besar GRC should go to the Polling Station located at Hong Wen School (C) at Victoria Street, which is the school’s parade square, to cast their votes, instead of HDB Pavilion Block 4A at Beach Road as reflected in their white Poll Cards. Polling District JB-JB25 refers to the area bounded by Victoria Street, Rochor River, Crawford Street, North Bridge Road, Jalan Sultan, Beach Road, Java Road, Nicoll Highway and Ophir Road. Voters in Polling District TM-TM13 of Tampines GRC should go to the Polling Station located at HDB Block 862 Void Deck at Tampines Street 83 to cast their votes, instead of HDB Block 805 Void Deck at Tampines Avenue 4 as reflected in their white Poll Cards. Polling District TM-TM13 refers to the area bounded by Tampines Street 83, Tampines Avenue 5, Tampines Avenue 6, Tampines Avenue 9, Tampines Avenue 7, Tampines Central 3, Tampines Central 1, Tampines Central 2, Tampines Avenue 5, Tampines Avenue 4 and Tampines Street 82. • Chapter 4 the Provincial and Urban Level: Meeting the Local Needs
The provincial and urban level: meeting local needs Chapter 4 Chapter 4 The provincial and urban level: meeting the local needs Increasingly, cities and regions in developing countries adopt incentive- based transport strategies in order to raise local revenue and alleviate congestion and environmental problems in urban areas. Nevertheless, there is no blue print as to how to successfully manage transport demand on the local level. It should always be borne in mind that sound transport measures based on Economic Instruments: • are highly city-specific, depend on city size, level of develop- ment, road networks and transport demand characteristics, cultu- ral and educational factors that determine transport behaviour, fle- xibility in transport mode choice, public acceptance, institutional capacities to introduce and enforce measures, local institutional and jurisdictional independence from national transport policy fra- meworks; • are most effective if applied as part of a comprehensive transport strategy as outlined in chapters 1 and 2; On the regional and local level important Economic Instruments which are implemented in many countries include: • Surcharges on national/federal measures (see section 4.1), • Parking fees (see section 4.2), • Urban road and congestion pricing (see section 4.3). These measures will be discussed in more detail below. 87 Chapter 4 The provincial and urban level: meeting local needs Surcharges on national/federal measures Surcharges as a policy instrument The basic idea Local charges to Supplementing a national policy. • So, Your Loved One Is Going to Prison…
so, your loved one is going to prison… Not sure what to do or what happens next? In ‘RISE: A Book for Families of First-time Offenders’, we help you discover: RISE ❥ what happens to your loved one in prison, ❥ how to cope with the feelings you may be experiencing, ❥ how your child might be affected by the imprisonment and what you can do to help, ❥ what to expect when your loved one comes home, and ❥ resources you can turn to. Collaboration between: ReinTEGraTinG THroUGH InsPiraTion, SUPPorT, anD EMPOWerMenT ReinTEGraTinG THroUGH InsPiraTion, SUPPorT, anD EMPOWerMenT FOREWORD I recently spoke at the Family Justice Practice Forum: Family Justice 2020 (on 14 July 2017) on the complexity of family justice, stressing that those who face an important issue for the first time in an unfamiliar environment are likely to be very much distressed by the experience. While speaking of this in reference to family disputes brought to court and its implications on spouses and children, this much is also true for the families of first-time offenders. Very often, the silent and oft overlooked victims of incarceration are loved ones who have witnessed the imprisonment of a family member. Faced with a unique set of challenges, guidance and support is necessary if they are to successfully navigate new and unfamiliar terrain. There already exists a wide variety of information and services available for these families. However, if this is not presented in an accessible and digestible manner it can be perceived as information overload, and if that happens it ends up adding to the families’ sense of loss and confusion.
