Monitoring and Evaluation of Sport-Based Hiv/Aids Awareness
MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF SPORT-BASED HIV/AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMMES OF SELECTED NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA: STRENGTHENING OUTCOME INDICATORS ELMA NELISIWE MALEKA A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of PhD (Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science) in the Department of Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science of the University of the Western Cape. Supervisor: Professor Christo De Coning Co-Supervisor: Professor Marion Keim November 2015 ABSTRACT There are number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in South Africa that use sport as a tool to respond to HIV/AIDS mainly among young people, however, little is reported about the outcomes and impact of these programmes. The aim of this study is to contribute to a generic monitoring and evaluation framework by improving the options for the use of outcome indicators of sport-based HIV/AIDS awareness programmes of selected NGOs in South Africa. The research followed a qualitative multiple case study design using multiple data collection instruments. The overall findings revealed that the sport-based HIV/AIDS awareness programmes of five selected NGOs examined in this study focus on similar HIV prevention messages within the key priorities highlighted in the current National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS, STIs and TB of South Africa. The HIV prevention messages of selected NGOs are also in line with the commitments and targets of the 2011 UN Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS. The sport-based HIV/AIDS programmes target youth with messages that raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, HIV risk behaviours and HIV stigma. Furthermore messages that promote uptake of health services such as HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) and Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC). -

The content analysis technique was used, which consists of perceiving the existence or the lack of information about a specific issue. Data were collected on the websites of participating sample clubs shortly after the deadline for disclosure of the mandatory financial statements. It was perceived that most of the clubs segregate from professional sports activities (87.5%) and discriminate by the nature of revenue between ticketing sales, sponsorship, television, transfer of athletes, among others (80%). In addition, clubs with high disclosure levels and good quality information had a better sporting performance than those who have not. However, clubs still do not meet the obligation of Interpretação Técnica Geral 2003 even after 4 years since it has been publicized. Moreover, there is a lack of comparability between the statements and the quality of the information disclosed, essential aspects for the users. -

Nielsen Sports Women’S Football 2019 with Supporting Social Media Insights from Introduction
NIELSEN SPORTS WOMEN’S FOOTBALL 2019 WITH SUPPORTING SOCIAL MEDIA INSIGHTS FROM INTRODUCTION By almost any measure, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is poised to be the biggest yet. France will host the eighth edition of the tournament across nine cities – Lyon, Grenoble, Le Havre, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rennes and Valenciennes. With prime-time coverage expected across Europe, viewership is set to be up on the last tournament. At the same time, genuine commercial momentum is building with FIFA partners and team sponsors, notably Adidas and Nike, launching the most ambitious activation programmes yet seen for a women’s football event. Women’s club football is also growing around the world, an important development which looks set to ensure there is less of a spike in interest in women’s football around major international events like the World Cup as the club game sustains interest in the periods between them. There have been record attendances over the last year in Mexico, Spain, Italy and England, with rising interest levels and unprecedented investment from sponsors, while at a regional level, in Europe, UEFA is this season hosting the Women’s Champions League final in a different city from the men’s event for the first time. This report, put together by Nielsen Sports and Leaders, offers a snapshot of the health of women’s football as the World Cup gets underway, examining current interest levels, the makeup of fans and what the future may bring as it increasingly professionalises. On the eve of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, we have also worked with Facebook to look at interest in the women’s game across its platforms. -

“How Egypt's Soccer Fans Became Enemies of the State.” by Ishaan
“How Egypt’s Soccer Fans Became Enemies of the State.” By Ishaan Tharoor. Washington Post. Feb. 9, 2015. An Ultras White Knights soccer fan cries during a match between Egyptian Premier League clubs Zamalek and ENPPI at the Air Defense Stadium in a suburb east of Cairo, Egypt, Feb. 8, 2015. (Ahmed Abd El-Gwad/El Shorouk via AP) It's happened again. On Sunday, more than 20 Egyptian soccer fans were killed in an altercation with security forces outside a stadium that was hosting a game between Cairo clubs Zamalek and ENPPI. The tragic incident comes three years after the deaths of 72 Al Ahly soccer fans during a match in the city of Port Said, one of the worst disasters in the history of the sport. As they did three years ago, Egyptian authorities have suspended the league in the wake of the violence. Many of the dead reportedly belong to a hard-core group of Zamalek supporters known as the Zamalek White Knights. Egyptian officials say police fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of ticketless fans attempting to force its way into the stadium. Public prosecutors have ordered the arrest of leading Zamalek White Knights members. On their Facebook page, the White Knights accuse security forces of carrying out "a planned massacre." One prominent White Knights leader wrote in an online post that authorities had let some 5,000 fans enter a narrow enclosure and then shut them in, proceeding to lob rounds of tear gas into the massed crowd. "People died from the gas and the pushing, but they had shut the exit," wrote the leader, who goes by the online alias Yassir Miracle.
