BRIEF HISTORY OF DATU SALIBO MUNICIPALITY

I-Legal Creation

Municipality of Datu Salibo became an independent local government unit by virtue of MMA Act No.253, amending MMA Act No. 222 ratified and approval into Law on April 22, 2009 on July 18, 2009. A plebiscite was conducted with overwhelming YES votes, thereafter, the officials of the newly created municipality took their oath before the Regional Governor and assumed to their respective positions. As a new municipality, Datu Salibo has complied with the requisites and requirements provided for by the Local Government Code of 1991 and of the Local Government code of ARMM in the creation separation of a distinct and independent Local Government unit. Datu Salibo derived its name from the grandfather of the incumbent Maguindanao Governor, Datu Andal Salibo Ampatuan Sr. He (Datu Slibo) was great nobleman and one of the great advisers of the Old man Amaimingka or Datu Piang, known far and wide as the great Leader of his time in the early 30’s. Through people’s initiatives aiming for socio-economic upliftment, the inhabitants of the two municipalities of Datu Piang and its daughter municipality of Datu Salibo proposed thru legislation to create another distinct Local government unit culled out from the aferecited municipalities. Hence, four barangays from Datu Piang, namely Barangay Andavit, Barangay Tee, Barangay Butilen and Barangay Pandi formed part of the new municipality of Datu Salibo, while Barangay Sambulawan and Barangay Pinditen are culled out from the Municipality of Datu Saudi Ampatuan. The present leadership of its Local chief executive Hon. Datu Akmad B. Ampatuan supported by its Vice Mayor Datu Kanor D. Ampatuan, head of the legislative department manifest an excellent start of governance. Two months after assumption of the appointed local officials, with the all-out-support of the Regional Governor, Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan, started to portray its will and efforts to fastract its vision objectives for socio economic development of the constituents and the community.

During the early part of October 2009, the municipal government of Datu Salibo has initiated to construct 100 unit of housing project for the IDP’s/ families of evacuees thru the DSWD-XII, while the propose construction of a Municipal Government Center/Hall at Barangay Sambulawan is at its stage of land preparation funded by the Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan. While at this point of early development, the leadership is still structuring its employees and staff to run the affairs of the LGU and the key positions are occupied by personnel detailed from the previous government of Maguindanao in a temporary status while the municipal has no regular fund from the national government to implement its.

The new municipality is composed of six barangays, four of which are culled out from Datu Piang and two are from Datu Saudi Municipality. The name of the municipality,Datu Salibo is derived from the name of the grandfather of Provincial Governor, Datu Andal Ampatuan, Datu Salibo. The creation of the new municipality of Datu Salibo was initiated by its people and inhabitats aiming for socio-economic upliftment. The newly created municipality having no regular funding allocation from the national government is supported by the Regional Government thru the Office of the Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan to start its governance.The appointed officials portray their efforts and will to fastract its vision and objective to pursue its objectives for early development. As early as October 2009, the appointed Municipal Mayor, Datu Akmad B. Ampatuan concentrated on the welfare of the IDP’s who are victims of the man-made calamity. Thru his initiative, the DSWD-Region XII extended fund support for the construction One Hundred (100) units of semi-permanent housing projects for one hundred family heads of the victims. On the other hand, the regional government is funding the on-going land preparation where the proposed construction of a municipal hall is to be erected at Barangay Sambulawan, the seat of the municipal government of the Datu Salibo Municipality. At this early, the leadership is still at the stage of structuring its employees and staff to run the affairs of the municipal government. Key positions are occupied by personnel detailed from the provincial government of the Maguindanao while the LGU has no regular fund to hire its employees.
