I’m sure you have already heard the notion of dual-booting Ubuntu with Windows. Many Ubuntu users who have to work on both platforms, sometimes require to have more than one Operating System installed inside the same machine. But that is for PC and Laptops, what about the Android devices? No worries, if you have an updated Android smart device, you can install the Ubuntu Touch alongside the Android operating system. Ubuntu Touch is the adapted variant of the Ubuntu operating system for Android smartphones. Ubuntu Touch on Android Device. We all know that Android devices are originally build based on the Linux Kernel. So, it won’t be though to install the Ubuntu Touch on the mid to high range Android devices. There is a list available on the UBports official website, they have enlisted all the Android devices that are capable of installing the Ubuntu Touch OS. You can check whether your Android smart device is listed or not. In this post, we are going to see how to install the Ubuntu Touch OS on Android devices and use it as a dual boot alongside the Android operating system. Step 1: Download the UBports Installer to Grab the Ubuntu Touch. There is an installer file developed by the UBports community is available on GitHub, that can be installed on your Ubuntu desktop or Windows or, even Macbook devices. The UBports installer will be used for flashing the Android devices with Ubuntu Touch. You have to enable the USB developer mood from your android device, then connect the phone with your computer through the USB cable. If your device can’t get connected with the UBports, you may need to enable the Android developer option under the Settings > Developer options . Once you have connected the USB cable, the UBports would automatically recognize your device. If it can’t find your device, you can manually select the name and model of your Android device from the UBports dropdown menu. Some Android devices might ask for the root permission to initialize the flashing process. In that case, you need to root your Android device to get the root privileges. Be careful and mindful while you root your Android device. You may lose the warranty support of your Android by rooting the device. Also, rooting with the wrong image file can brick your Android, so root your phone at your own risk with proper knowledge. Step 2: Getting Ready to Install the Ubuntu Touch. After getting your Android phone connected with the UBports, now you can select which Ubuntu version you want to install inside your device. You will find all the stable versions of Ubuntu Touch that are available to be installed inside your Android device. You can also choose whether you want to wipe your device’s memory and storage or not. After choosing the Ubuntu version and other settings, you may now proceed by clicking the Install button. This will initialize the process of installing the Ubuntu Touch OS. After you see the process is started, you have to press the Power button and the Volume Up/Down button at a time to enter into the Android recovery mood. There you will see Ubuntu Touch is being injected inside your Android device. Step 3: Get Introduced with Ubuntu Touch Software Store. You might be thinking if you get the Ubuntu Touch installed on your Android device, will you get all the necessary apps that you need in your day to day use? Well, the answer is yes! Ubuntu Touch has a huge and vast AppStore for your mobile devices. In the software store, you will find almost every software that you might need to install inside your Ubuntu Touch. Step 4: Dual Booting Ubuntu Touch with Android. On Android, the normal booting configurations are stored inside the system recovery directory. To enable the dual boot option, you need to edit the booting bash file. Here I’m going to download a dual-booting bash file for my Android device. You can use any of your favorite bash editors to enable dual-booting. Keep your Android device connected with your computer, leave the settings of USB debugging as it was before. Now, open the terminal from your Ubuntu Linux machine and use the following bash commands to update your booting options. Before you start editing your booting scripts, make sure you have downloaded the correct dual boot bash file for your device. Replacing the wrong boot script would damage your device. Here, I am using the Nexus 4 Android device, so I’m going to download the boot bash file for my device. You have to find the booting script file for your device. If you want to remove or delete the Ubuntu Touch from your Android device, you can use the dual boot application settings that you have just installed inside your device to wipe the Ubuntu Touch. Final Thoughts. You may ask, why would you install the Ubuntu Touch inside your Android while you already have the Android system installed inside the device. The answer is very clear, installing a new Operating System to any device is not obligatory, rather it’s freedom. In this post, I have tried to clarify the concept of installing the Ubuntu Touch inside an Android device with a brief explanation. [GUIDE] Install and use Ubuntu Touch 16.04 on Teclast tablets [ISO] Our tablets are based on Intel SoC, so we are ablet to run Desktop Os, like Windows 10 but also like GNU/Linux Distros. The main problem is UEFI on Baytrail tablets (Teclast x98 Air 3G, Air II, Air III), because they use a 32 Bit UEFI, that is really different from classic UEFI (64 Bit, like Teclast x98 PRO and other Teclast running Windows 10 x64). But, Linux users and Linux developers are really smart and they provide a compatibility patch to boot 64 bit operating system on a 32 Bit UEFI running on a x64 Tablets (yes, it is not a joke). My dream is to have a fully working Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity 8 and MIR , in order to have an Ubuntu Touch experience. But, to start people learn how to install it, I made a customized ISO of Ubuntu 16.04 that you can see in the second post. Remember, you can always turn back to original Teclast Dual OS configuration using my guide : - [GUIDE] Teclast x98 Air 3G: fresh install Windows 10 and Android with repartitioning. Now, what you need : - A compatible x64 GNU/Linux distro: please start with My Ubuntu 16.04 customized ISO or XJUbunTAB customized ISO; - If you use any traditional ISO (and not My own or XJubuntu), remember that you need to download bootia32.efi and put it in Pendrive/EFI/Boot on any 32 Bit UEFI Tablets; - Rufus to burn the Distro on a Pendrive; - HUB USB with a Keyboard and Mouse. Procedure : 1) Burn your ISO on a Pendrive and check if " bootia32.efi " is placed in efi/boot; 2) Plug your HUB with pendrive, keyboard and mouse; 3) Turn on your Teclast by pressing 2-3 seconds power button and start pressing ESC on Keyboard; 4) Go to the last tab of your Bios, find Boot Override option and select your bootable pendrive; 5) In the Grub, select "Try Ubuntu for Teclast" (do not use Install Ubuntu for Teclast), the first time is better to erase all partitions anc create an EFI partition (at least 201 Megabyte), a root partition "/" in the rest of free space, set bootloader on root of hard drive (eMMC) and do not create any other partitions (like SWAP)..See the following image, I've partitioned my Teclast x98 Air 3G using gParted Live: Ubuntu Touch.

Der Unterschied zwischen Live Versionen und einer live-persistent erstellten Version ist, dass bei einem reinen Live System nach Beenden die Daten und Einstellungen wieder weg sind Das Benutzen ist sozusagen temporär bis zum Ausschalten.. Ein USB-Stick mit Live-Persistent eingerichtetem System kann sozusagen als OnToGo Linux benutzt werden. Das ZorinOS lite habe ich dazu ausgewählt, da diese nur wenig Speicher als System benötigen und mit wenig RAM auskommen, dabei als meine Voraussetzung auch auf Rechnern mit 2GB RAM arbeiten können - erfüllen. Das ISO-File habe ich dazu aus dem Internet heruntergeladen, funktionierten in meinem Experiment. Als Boot- Datenträgerhabe ich einen 64GB USB 3.0 Stick genommen, die Installation habe ich von einem IDEAPAD 100 gemacht auf dem Linux ZorinOS Ultimate installiert ist und von einem Siemens Fujitsu U910 auf dem Linux ZorinOS Ultimate installiert ist.     Lubuntu 20.04 beta review Presented to Peterborough Linux User Group (Canada) on March 2, 2020 Lubuntu • Ubuntu flavour with lightweight LXQt desktop environment (Qt is a set of libraries used most popularly for KDE Plasma) • LXQt is NOT a rewrite of LXDE in Qt – there are both Qt and GTK components • LXQt is a merge between LXDE-Qt and and Razor-qt, a project aiming to develop a Qt based desktop environment with similar objectives as the current LXQt (more here: https://github.com/lxqt/lxqt/wiki/History) • LXQt project formally split from LXDE in 2018 • Uses Openbox as Window Manager and X display server (plans to port Openbox to Mir and change to Wayland as display server) • Development team does not recommend upgrading from 18.04 or any previous version because of changes in desktop environment Minimum Requirements Lubuntu website no longer lists minimum requirements but it ran fine on my laptop with these specs: • Toshiba Satellite Z830 (laptop) ◦ CPU: Dual Core Intel Core i3-2367M 1.4 Ghz • 4 GB RAM available ◦ 390 MB with nothing running (other than qps), down from 540 MB 6 weelsmine ago ◦ 1.2 G used with Firefox (1.9 GB), LibreOffice Writer (0.9 GB), qps, pcmanfm, Trojita and SpiderOak One running, same as before • i915 integrated graphics – used 1920x1080 external monitor • 128 GB mSATA 300 SSD ◦ 52 GB available, 44 GB left Desktop Environment LXQt 0.14.1 Qt 5.12.5 ScreenGrab Qlipper Programs Installed Removed programs from 19.10 crossed out.
