Sadly, our celebration of dyke, queer, and trans solidarity was partially overshadowed by our deci- sion to ask three individuals carrying Israeli flags superimposed on rainbow flags to leave the rally. This decision was made after they repeatedly ex- pressed support for Zionism during conversations with Chicago Dyke March Collective members. We have since learned that at least one of these in- dividuals is a regional director for A Wider Bridge, an organization with connections to the Israeli state and right-wing pro-Israel interest groups. ALMA Board President Julio Rodriguez, among other things, noted that the PRAA is an insti- tution dedicated to preserving Chicago’s Puerto Rican history. He also explained that last year’s Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida, was significant because it propelled the LGBTQ Puerto Rican community into the spotlight. “It is important to remember that it took almost a whole week before the press even mentioned the that the majority of the people killed were Latinx and almost two weeks before they identified any of the people specifically,” said Rodriguez. “This speaks to the fact that we need to continue to be SWEDISH visible. PRIDE ‘17 Center holds 10th Pride kickoff party By Tarina Hargrays

On June 23, Center on Halsted celebrated 10 years of its annual Pride Kickoff with another successful rooftop party. The event included food, drinks, music and special guest Coco Montrese, who is most famously known for her role in RuPaul’s Drag Race and her impersonation of Ja- net Jackson. The evening began with guests danc- ing to the urban and pop tunes of DJ Billy Jones and DJ Gemini Jones. They were also able to mix and mingle as they scored freebies such as hats, mugs, water bottles and even t-shirts from the event’s sponsors, which included PNC Bank and Xfinity. As the night continued, attendees could be seen dancing along the rooftop with drinks in hand. However, the party didn’t really start until Montrese came on stage. Guests gathered around the star as she danced to the likes of throwback Ja- net Jackson songs. The party went on from there. Montrese dazzled the crowd with her fashion and dance moves, and even managed to in- teract with partygoers as they handed her cash for her show.
