I've been sent several e-mails about the website in the past claiming that it was really anti-Fitna, but have seen no evidence of this. What it appears to do is simply aggregate articles about Geert Wilders and Fitna. Since most of those articles are filled with idiotic statements about how hateful the movie and/or Geert Wilders is, then it's no wonder many have that impression. The website had several version of the movie Fitna embedded on it, so I'm not sure how the claim that it was anti-Fitna can be backed up. It certainly not the official website for Fitna, which was here before Network Solutions caved and pulled the plug. If anything, it's another website trying to cash in on the Fitna phenomenon. Kind of like the douchebag who owns mypetjawa.com. Apparently the hackers haven't bothered to watch the movie Fitna, which they claim "judge[s] a whole nation because of some extremists?". I'm sorry, just what "nation" do Muslims belong to? I was under the impression the "Muslim" denoted an adherent of a "religion" and not a "nation". Unless, of course, you are referring to the "ummah" which is the "nation of Islam". In which case, most of us would consider you the extremist for rejecting modern notions of nationality. It also claims there is a Western conspiracy to cover up the truth of a massacre by Christians of Muslims in Indonesia. What is so odd about this claim is that several Christians were executed for these horrendous acts of barbarism against innocents in Indonesia. However, many more Christians have been killed by Muslim terrorists in the same conflict, none of whom have been given severe penalties to my knowledge. If I recall the original website correctly, it is running on Wordpress. There are several known Wordpress exploits. The site was hacked by VoLcaNo & Cyb3rT, aka "Cyber - Terrorist". Cyb3rT claims to be from Saudi Arabia. He once hacked into one of Microsoft's servers. View backup of hacked site here. Thanks to CJN. A live hand-grenade was released threatening to blow up L/Cpl Croucher, 24 and the rest of the patrol. The marine shouted "grenade" and as his friends dived for cover L/Cpl Croucher lay with his back on the lethal device. Lance Corporal Matt Croucher suffered a bloody nose, but was saved by his body armor. Of course, there's no way he could have known that. Hat tip: Garduneh Mehr. Has the author of this article actually ever, ya know, read the Bible?: Passages from the [Qu'ran] that rail hatefully against Jews have, unfortunately, long been misused as propaganda. That is tragic, as it is tragic that similar anti-Semitic passages are just as common in the Bible. Unless the author is saying that Old Testament exhortations to war against Israel's neighbors are necessarily "anti-semitic," I'm at a loss to understand what this author means. The Qu'ran exhorts Muslims to undertake violence against Jews as Jews. The Old Testament contains exhortations to the Israelites to fight for Israel and against Israel's enemies--who, true enough, were generally "semitic," as were the ancient Israelites. I suppose an exhortation to Semitic Individual A to fight Semitic Individual B can be considered "anti-Semitic" to the extent that B is semitic and the exhortation is "anti-B." Using that definition of "anti-semitic," the state of Israel, which is in conflict with its Arab neghbors, is an "anti-semitic" country. Of course, to use the term in this way robs it of meaning. "Anti-semitic" has traditionally been applied as a perjorative against non-semitic individuals and groups who have negative atitudes toward or take action against semitic people for no other reason than that those people are semitic. Under this definition of "anti-semitic," the term describes something to be condemned. Under a definition of "anti-semitic" broad enough to encompass the Old Testament, the word becomes nothing more than a neutral adjective, in the same way that an overly-broad definition of "racism" becomes similarly meaningless. This was made known to staff through Mr who acts as an interpreter for Mr Othman who does not appear to be able to speak much English. I interviewed both of the above detainees this evening in the company of SO one of the Unit Senior Officers and Principal Officer . Mr Othman (through his interpreter) stated that he does not seek any reward for which he sees this as a humanitarian act. If this is sanctioned he wishes to produce a video or audio message and he asked me what facilities we had. I explained that this was not something to be discussed until an answer in principle was received from HQ. I told him that I would inform our Headquarters of his offer. He reminded me that there was a deadline of this Thursday in relation to the hostages. Mr Othman was unable to contact his solicitor this evening. Mr will keep in touch with the Unit staff as and when contact has been made.

NOT THE KING'S BENCH Edward A. Hartnett* Speaking at a public birthday party for an icon, even if the honoree is one or two hundred years old, can be a surprisingly tricky business. Short of turning the party into a roast, it seems rude to criticize the birthday boy too harshly. On the other hand, it is at least as important to avoid unwarranted and exaggerated praise.1 The difficult task, then, is to try to say something re motely new or interesting while navigating that strait. The conference organizers did make it easier for me in one respect: My assignment does not involve those ideas for which Marbury is invoked as an icon. It is for others to wrestle in well worn trenches with exalted arguments about judicial review and its overgrown descendent judicial supremacy, while trying to avoid unseemly criticism or fawning praise. I, on the other hand, am to address more technical issues involving section 13 of the Judiciary Act of 1789 and its provision granting the Supreme Court the power to issue writs of mandamus.

Arianti 14 November 2008 The trio responsible for Bali Bombing I have been executed. The Indonesian authorities have received threats to expect retaliation for the executions. Will the threats materialize? What are legacies of the three bombers for the Indonesian radical community? THE BALI bombers trio – Imam Samudra (38), Ali Ghufron alias Mukhlas (48), and Amrozi (47) – were finally executed by an Indonesian firing squad on Sunday, 9 November 2008 at 00.15 am. The three were sentenced to death by the Denpasar District Court in 2003 for their roles in Bali Bombing I in October 2002 that killed 202 people. They had exhausted their appeals against the death penalty. Their final effort was to ask for a judicial review on the method of the execution by the firing squad, which they considered un-Islamic and torturous. This request was rejected by the Constitutional Court on 21 October 2008. Interestingly, the trio did not ask for a presidential clemency; even if they had it would have been rejected.

  • Draft ASA Conference Paper Cultural Perceptions of Tourism And
Draft ASA Conference Paper Cultural Perceptions of Tourism and Terrorism Michael Hitchcock and I Nyoman Darma Putra Introduction Michel Houellebecq's controversial novel 'Platform' (2002) manages to combine an account of sex tourism with an horrific terrorist attack in Thailand. Whatever the merits of the book, which was originally published in French in 1999, the author is eerily prescient about how tourist resorts could become terrorism targets in Southeast Asia. Houellebecq may be concerned with Thailand, which has suffered attacks on nightclubs and centres of entertainment, but has not experienced the same level of terrorist violence as other Southeast Asian countries, notably the Philippines. There the militant Islamic group Abu Sayyaf took 21 hostages, including 10 foreign tourists, from a diving resort in the Malaysian state of Sabah. The kidnap earned Abu Sayyaf US$ 20 million, reportedly paid by Libya (Rabasa, 2003: 54). The worst outrage to date occurred in Bali in 2002 where over 201 people lost their lives when three bombs were ignited. In this case the bombers were rounded up relatively quickly and on admitting their guilt where quick to point out why they had acted as they did. Thailand, however, is arguably one of the most iconic of tourism destinations and the fact that the real terrorist outrages have happened elsewhere does not detract from one of the main messages of the book: tourists are easily attacked and some of what they engage in may be used as a justification for attacking them. Houellebecq is of course a novelist and a very opinionated one according to some of his critics, but he does investigate the cultural ramifications of terrorists attacking tourists.
