northumbriasport.com 13 CHALLENGE YOURSELF The Northumbria Sport Foundation is Northumbria Sport’s partner charity, which raises funds to deliver sporting projects that benefit disadvantaged local and international communities. These projects enhance the potential of hard to reach groups and make a lasting difference to people’s lives through sport. As a student, support the Foundation by taking part in our exciting programme of fundraising events. These include the Great North Run, Coast2Coast and an annual series of fun sporting events and challenges. You can also get involved in your own fundraising activities – this will help the charity and develop valuable enterprise skills. You can also support the Foundation’s work by delivering our community projects. This could involve coaching sport, running events or organising activities. By working on these programmes, you will gain leadership skills and will have an opportunity to work with a variety of people in many different local community settings. The Foundation also supports projects such as the Zambia IDEALS programme which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2015. Every year six Northumbria University students spend four weeks coaching sport to children and young people in Zambia.
