Many of us will recall his tenancy of the'Lord Raglan'lnn in Wolverhampton which became a musical mecca for visitors at home and abroad. ln earlier days he had a 7-piece band of which he could play any of the instruments and frequently did. lt was heavy stuff, but the Groups were coming in and he found that a 4- piece outf it was far easier to ma nage. That's the way it has been ever since, a nd the Thos. William Burton Sporting House (Club) with Piano, Drums, Banjo and Tuba has never looked back. As a Ragtime Pianist of the first magnitude, Tommy Burton's reputation is now solidly established. He has made a number of recordings and is a familiar face on television. After Harrow an army posting to West Africa gave him time to study the llford Manual of Photography and on return to civilian life in 1962 he took his first step to professional photography much to the chagrin of his family. Starting in the dark room, he progressed from photographing food to more interesting subjects when'Life'Magazine,'Look', 'Esquire' and 'Holiday'took an interest in him. H is ability to bring out personality in portraits brought countless assignments for 'Vogue' as well as many portrait commissions. Today he is immersed additionally in the demanding field of advertising photography. More recent highlights to his career include his selection in 1981 as official Photographer to the Royal Wedding and the publishing of his first two books 'The Most Beautiful Women' and'Lichfield of Photography'.
