The comparatively short train, the small number of passengers, an excellent display by Mother Nature and an excel- lent performance by that noble steel steed, No. 6218, combined to make the event an enjoyable one, not only for the passengers but also for the trip committee. A subsidiary factor but, unfortunately, an important one , was that it lost a considerable amount of money for the Association, and while the purpose of our excursions has never been to make a profit per se, it is reasonable that an attempt be made to avoid loss. In de­ fense of the Trip Committee, however, it should be said tha t the fall trip deficit was more than offset by a profit on the spring excursion to Essex Junction SO that, taking 1966 operations as a whole, there is a "black" balance. This would not have been, however, had it not been for the spontan­ eous generosity of the 470 Railroad Club of Portland, Maine, and its dedicated and magnanimous Treasurer and Clerk of Corporation, our good friend Mr. J. Emmons Lancaster. No. 6218 was shared with the Portland club on the October 1/2 weekend, and this sharing made the inevitable large fixed costs of supplying the locomotive and operating it over such a long mileage, less of a burden on both the Portland club and ourselves. The Portland group had a tremendous turnout of passengers, over eight hundred in fact, in contrast to slightly more than one hundred adventurous souls who supported our own trip.

    Transit, Six Months After COVID-19: A Progress Report Written by David Peter Alan, Contributing Editor Transit is fighting its way back, after devastating decreases in ridership and revenue last spring, which necessitated severe service reductions on many lines and throughout many systems. Today, many of those systems are increasing service, both because many of the remaining riders need it, and in the hope that riders from the pre-COVID era will come back. Offices are re-opening slowly and carefully in some transit-rich cities, and many venues that historically attracted tourists (even if only for a day trip) are still shut down. Wherever it is located, transit must fight a protracted battle to remain relevant and regain some of the ground it captured during the past several decades, and then lost during the past several months. In this report, we will look at how transit providers in the US and Canada are doing, especially with respect to the amount of service they are offering. Some providers are back to offering the level of service that they offered before the virus hit. Others still offer reduced service, while some lines are still shut down completely. How is your local transit provider doing these days? Read on and find out. This paper contains a description of the dykes encountered in a section of the Canadian National Railway tunnel through Mount Royal. The section is 1226 feet in length from station 188+35 in Trenton limestone, 3492 feet west of the eastern portal of the tunnel, to station 195+61 within the essexite, 91 feet beyond its contact with the limestone. The material studied consisted of specimens collected by Dr. J.A. Bancroft. In the table below is a comparison of the types of dykes found in this section with those previously des­ cribed by A.W.
