BIOGRAPHY Natalie Mering aka Weyes Blood has released three full-length albums, a couple EPs, and has collaborated with such acts as Ariel Pink, Drugdealer and Perfume Genius. Mering’s entire output thus far has been an exercise in exploring the atemporal. She is a musician and a singer, after all, but the particular process of Weyes Blood’s development and Mering’s experimentation, with everything from her early days of local-noise-scene strangeness, to her present mastery of timeless balladry highlight her as a meticulous sonic alchemist. The Innocents, Weyes Blood’s Mexican Summer debut, deepened and broadened the shimmering murkiness of her earlier album, The Outside Room, by shaving away the fuzzy lo-fi production to reveal a classic and singular songwriting ability. Cardamom Times, the EP that followed, went further down the folky, lyrically evocative path that The Innocents traveled. The influence of classical music can be felt throughout these two works, rivaling the folk music lineage one may like to situate Mering’s songs. Tendo como base atributos experimentais do clipe e partindo metodologicamente de imbricações entre experiência e narrativa, delineadas por Benjamin (1987), buscamos problematizar como narrativas e experiências estéticas (possíveis) mais experimentais, empregadas na cultura pop, intencionam promover um deslocamento do pop da ideia de comercial e esvaziado, sem aprofundamentos e/ou apreensões políticas, para uma lógica de produção cult (e mais próxima de experimental) ou conceituada. Paradoxalmente, tais acionamentos ainda revelam uma demanda do pop de se reinventar continuamente em função de seu lucro e status. (Obs.: Agradecimentos à UFOP e à CAPES pelo incentivo ao trabalho.) Introdução Lançado em setembro de 2018, o videoclipe de Venice Bitch3, da cantora norte- americana Lana Del Rey, retoma esteticamente as produções do início da carreira da artista dentro da cultura pop, em 2011, com espécies de videocolagens que lembram uma junção de imagens de arquivo, trajadas de efeitos de “mofo” ou antiguidade, e alocadas em vídeos mais extensos. Quando Lana ascendia nesse cenário, seus objetos audiovisuais eram enxergados pela crítica como “bem-produzidos”, “ousados”4 e capazes de abusar conceitualmente do tempo em prol de sua narrativa e composição.
