“My initial intention wasn’t to make a record at all,” Cornfield muses. “The whole thing CD: 23339-9126-2 kind of happened by accident. There was no rush. It was freeing, and it gave the songs a lot of breathing room to develop.”

At the same time he grow up with the music of electronic producers like Alvo Noto, Boards of Canada, Jon Hopkins, Jan Jelinek, Four Tet since early days. And: he comes from a Jazz musicians family and has grown up by listening to the jazz collection of his father. Studied saxophone since age of 12 with a big passion for the more advanced Jazz.

Ralph Heidel and his 7 piece ensemble Homo Ludens connect contemporary chamber music with Electronica, Ambient, Post rock and avant-garde Jazz. On a highest possible musical level – without getting too abstract and incomprehensible.

Everything is composed and improvised. Nothing is sampled. You find wild Punk-Jazz parts that recall John Zorn or Mahavishnu Orchestra and romantic passages that make you think about European impressionistic composers like Ravel or Debussy. But nothing is imitated, everything gets broken up through an expressive new way of using harmonization and melodic composing. Sometimes the band flies through an ambient and drone universe but one moment later the music evolves into an explosive, impossible to describe musical moment. We are living in a world full of confusion when it comes to identity. it’s easy to loose yourself. all of a sudden you are standing there playing music but missing the music at the same time, or hanging out with your best friend while missing the friendship. We are trying to stay connected. it is a constant task. We lose it but then we find it again, just like everybody else. sometimes it ends up in music for the moment. sometimes it ends up in the shape of a record.

we met on the streets of Berlin in spring 2013 while one of us was playing on the streets. after we played the first time together, there was no question that we would travel a musical journey together from that day. mattimatti was initiated.

on our quest we began playing improvised tunes on sitar and hang on the street while travelling through Sweden and Germany. this lead us to be invited to numerous festivals all over Europe while constantly developing our music and sound. since then our set has added new instruments such as a drum kit with hang, African harps, sitar, guitar, harmonica, clarinet, hank drum and vocals on top of it extending the sound with a space echo. the long, intimate tunes that we are creating have an original structure and sound. there is a certain present resting in the music which is hard to describe but easy to experience if you listen to it.

our live concerts have been dubbed mythical, hypnotic, magic and epic. traveling is our biggest influence on music.

Adam Baldych Quartet CD Sacrum Profanum Release Date: 29-Mar-19 [ACT] CD/ ACT98812 / 614427988126 / $15.50

“Sacrum Profanum” is a conceptual album, the result of my experiments and creative explorations. I feel that we as humans are more than ever before looking for harmony, faith, timeless values and the truth about ourselves, while also yearning to convey our personalities through self-expression. This is what Sacrum Profanum means to me.

I decided to reach out for sacred music, from the medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen and the renaissance Thomas Tallis, to the contemporary Russian avant-gardist Sofia Gubaidulina. My goal was to capture the timeless beauty of the mystical music of these exceptional composers and interpret their work through contemporary musical language.

The album also includes five new compositions that I wrote while working on the project. My artistic journey came back to its starting point. As a young violinist, I was expelled from music school for playing jazz, for improvising and for rebelling against classical music in an attempt to redefine the sound of the violin. Now, once again, I felt the imperative to connect with my greatest inspiration at the moment – classical music. Today, the contemporary language of classical music and the spontaneity of jazz improvisation are my impetus. While working on my new album, I was also intensively exploring a dimension that is often used by New Music composers, sonoristic layer.

For the recordings I used orchestral instruments including the gran cassa, gongs, crotales, and a prepared piano. I also wanted to delight in the magical, inspirational and unique sound of the Renaissance violin. For me, contemporary virtuosity is based on the most sophisticated and varied of sounds, full of new colours and different techniques, which I discover by experimenting on my instrument. It gives me an infinite sea of possibilities.

“Sacrum Profanum” is my first album for the ACT label with Polish musicians. My new quartet consists of unique musical personalities: Krzysztof Dys, Michał Barański, Dawid Fortuna and myself. Our performance combines what I love most about playing music: a nobility of sound from classical music, an uninhibited imagination from jazz, and inspiration from the traditions of both.

Listening today to the music produced by Sensations’ Fix, a project founded and directed by Franco Falsini in ‘70s, can’t just leave anyone indifferent. Already in the mid-’60s, Falsini was full-time involved in musical activities: a tireless traveler and experimenter, an artist with uncommon curiosity and intuition, after having lived for some time in the United States and England, he finally established again in Italy where he gave shape to Sensations’ Fix and signed a contract with Polydor for the release of six records in five years. Often associated with the sound of Tangerine Dream and the so-called German ‘cosmic couriers’, Sensations’ Fix were much more than mere clones of something already existing.

“Sensations’ Fix” is - together with “Portable Madness” and “Fragments of Light” - one of the three titles published in 1974, a collection of short psychedelic compositions, in which glimpses of ‘cosmic’ music can already be noticed; those elements would soon become a trademark in the group’s repertoire. The twelve compositions present here were part of demos that Falsini had sold to the record company, which decided to publish them in the form of a not-for-sale LP, which had “music especially recorded for radio and television” written on the back cover: in practice, sketches of musical ideas had been ‘transformed’ into ‘library music’ and collected in an extremely rare vinyl that sells today for hundreds of euros.

Sensations’ Fix albums are generally difficult to find; almost none of them has been reprinted in over forty years, but thanks to this series of reissues on the VM label it is now possible to rediscover them all. NEW RELEASES: EARLY APRIL 2019

In the fall of 1968, a small radio station in Ashtabula, Ohio unleashed a whole new genre of music upon their listeners when they aired the All Saved Freak Band’s first recorded songs. It was the very first time ANYONE had heard the idiom of rock music being used to convey the message of the gospel (This was pre- Larry Norman and a full 5 years prior to the term Contemporary Christian Music being coined!)

The All Saved Freak Band’s unique sound stemmed from its ensemble of 12 members skilled in rock, folk, blues, psychedelia, and classical music. ASFB blended those genres and sounds together to deliver straight, unvarnished, lyrical truth which countered the hedonism purveyed by much of rock n roll.

What makes their work so worthy of reissue is the bold experimentation and superior musicianship on display - qualities critics often find lacking in the very Contemporary Christian genre they were pioneering.

Their bold sound and stellar chops inspired and influenced a cult following among vinyl heads and musicians alike, being name- dropped particularly by artists like Dan Auerbach (of the Black Keys) and Damien Jurado.

We’ll be reissuing multiple records from ASFB, the first such release being the 1976 LP ‘Brainwashed’ . We hope you enjoy discovering and sharing this unique piece of music history as much as we have.

Gordon Henderson’s musical career began in various teenage bands, performing at talent shows and dances on the island of Dominica (where he was born). In 1970 he relocated to Guadeloupe where he became the English speaking “Caribbean Soul” singer of the group “Les Vikings”. With “Les Vikings” Henderson enjoyed international hits and toured all over the Caribbean and Europe. Through the next four decades Gordon went on to write, produce & play with various bands and artists. Enjoying tremendous record sales and receiving numerous awards for his work at home and abroad.

Now we’re taking you back to 1973 when Gordon decided to start his own band. He asked his former high schoolmate and co-musician Fitzroy Williams to select the best available young local musicians…soon after EXILE ONE saw the light! Mixing funk, reggae, calypso and Afro-Caribbean fusion in their set, Exile One performed a popular repertoire that was deeply influenced by Sixties soul music and bands like Osibisa & Earth, Wind and Fire.

Because French Antillean audiences wanted to dance instead of just watch a concert, the band “Creolized” their repertoire by introducing a mix of Haitian and Calypso music styles in combination with a full horn section and modern instruments like synths. The bands’ fusion of the traditional with the contemporary would turn into a new style which became a turning point in World Music… Cadence-Lypso was born and it was a HUGE success! Exile One and their Creole dance formula would later have a profound effect on popular World Music genres like Zouk and Soca. Exile One released several successful albums for the equally influential label Disques Debs and in 1975 they became the first Créole language act to sign a major recording contract with the French label Barclay (today part of the Universal Music Group). Exile One went on to receive several gold records.

The release we are presenting you today (their self-titled debut from 1974) became an instant hit. With a lot of airplay and intense touring, Exile One had in no time become one of the most influential Caribbean bands of its generation.The recording itself was done by the legendary producer Henri Debs, whose studio and label helped bring Créole music international recognition. The music on this album is rich, diverse and colorful in musical styles; from Island Funk stompers to bass-organ driven Reggae grooves and soulful ballads influenced by American greats like Otis Redding & James Brown. The cover depicts the band dressed in self-designed Afro gowns, holding large dried beans of a local tropical tree to spell the band name. Deeply inspired by the Pan-Africanism movement, the band’s lyrics reflect the social and political spirit of the post sixties.

Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents: the official reissue of this highly influential World Music classic, back available on vinyl for the first time since 1974.
