Introduction This text contains the document standards for the Kosovo GIRO project hereinafter referred to as „GIRO‟. The GIRO is a product of the CBK and the combined banks This document is intended for use as a reference for offset printers and financial institutions to highlight the document standards in use. 2. The Form The copyright on the Kosovo GIRO is held by CBK. 2.1 Format The GIRO is a standardized document made up of two parts: the submittal section and the counterfoil. The submittal section is available in only one format. The counterfoil is available as a thin counterfoil attached to the left side of the submittal section. The barcode is located in the upper right of the submittal section. The OCR text line is found on the bottom of the submittal section. This part is for automated processing of payment information. The GIRO has been designed to be used by collectors, payers and the financial institutions. Special attention has been paid to large-scale automated processing, particularly by the financial institutions. Large-scale automated processing places particular demands on the form, especially the submittal section. This section is available in only one standardized format. CBK, 33 Garibaldi Street, Pristina, Kosovo, Phone: +381 38 222 055 Fax: +381 38 243 763 Web: www.bqk-kos.org Kos-GIRO Standards 10 3. Specifications for Printing the GIRO 3.1 OCR-B and Bar Code for Automated Processing The Kosovo GIRO includes 2 technologies for automated, optical reading of payment details: Bar Code 128B (in the body) OCR-B (in the reader strip) For optimum data processing with Optical Character Recognition (OCR reading), high demands are placed on the OCR-B typeface and the bar code. Most of the data encoded in the OCR-B text and the bar code are the same. 3.2 OCR-B The financial institutions have chosen OCR-B typeface with font size 1 for processing the GIRO. The >, < and + characters are field separation characters and may only be printed in the allocated spaces. 3.3 Line Thickness The line thickness of the printed characters is nominally 0.35 mm, with a maximum tolerance of 0.08 mm. The minimum line thickness is 0.27 mm and the maximum line thickness is 0.43 mm. 3.4 Character Spacing The characters in the reader strip are grouped in fields. The characters have a fixed spacing of 0.1 inch = 2.54 mm. This is the distance between two centre lines. 3.5 Code line position The position of the code line is calculated precisely and has a very small tolerance. The distance from the bottom side of the cut or torn form to the bottom of the code line is 8.5 mm. The distance from the blue separating line between the body and the reader strip to the bottom of the code line is 9 mm.
