(Includes safety liability disclaimer (if applicablc), ordering information, originator's signatu~ information) We have been advised by Bell Canada that substantial telephone number growth in the Toronto area necessitatessplitting the existing 416 NPA (area code) and the simultaneous introduction of a new 905 NPA Both NPAs will have interchangeablecentral office codes (i.e., the second digit of a central office code may be any digit 0-9). The new 905 NPA will serve the area surrounding Metro Toronto and will include cities such as Mississauga, Hamilton, Oshawa, and Niagara Falls. The 416 NPA will continue to serve the six boroughs that comprise Metro Toronto (i.e., Toronto, Scarborough,York, North York, East York, and Etobicoke). The split of the 416 NPA is scheduled for 2:00 AM Eastern Standard Time., Saturday, October 2,1993. There will be a permissive dialing period starting 2:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, Saturday, October 2, 1993 and ending at 2:00 AM Eastern Daylight SaVingsTime, Saturday March 26, 1994. During the permissive dialing period either 416 or 905 will be acceptable in a dialed number terminating in the new NPA. After the permissive period, calls dialed with incorrect NPA codes will be routed to intercept. Switching systemsin the new 9Or::!A"Will begin transmitting "905" in the calling number Automatic Number Identification (ANI) on October 1, 1992.1'" All ANI changeswill be completed by January 1, 1994. Test calls to verify routing to the ~~~ NPA can be made by calling 905-206-0000. This test number will become available on September 1, 1993, and remain operational for a minimum of 30 days after the end of the permissive period. The attached map illustrates the 416 and 905 configuration after the split. A listing of, the communities to be served by each area code after the split is also attached. Canadian routing information is not included in Bellcore's LERG. The dialing plan for the new 905 NP A will be the same as the existing dialing plan for the 416 NPA: -All home NPA (HNPA) "local" calls (generally calls that do no't incur a charge) must be dialed on a 7 digit basis with no prefIx; i.e., NXX + XXXX (7 digits). -All home NPA (HNPA) direct dialed "toll" calls (generally calls that incur a charge) _mustbe dialed with a prefix "1" and 10 digits; i.e., 1 + HNPA + NXX + XXXX (1 + 10 digits) rt -All "local" calIs (generally calls that do not incur a charge) between the 416 and 905 NPAs will will be dialed on a 10 digit basis with no prefIx; i.e., 416 + NXX + XXXX or 905 + NXX + x.xxx (10 digits). -All foreign NPA (FNPA) direct dialed "toll" calls must be dialed with a prefIX "1" and 10 digits; i.e., 1 + FNPA + NXX + XXXX (1 + 10 digits). -Operator assisted calls including credit card calls, collect, and third party calls will be dialed with a "0" prefix and 10 digits; i.e., 0 + NPA + NXX + XXXX (0 + 10 digits).
