July 21, 2014 TO: SPIRIT COACHES (CHEERLEADING, CO-ED, POM PON, JAZZ, HIP-HOP) FROM: JENN ROBERTS-UHLIG, ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER RE: COLORADO SPIRIT RULES AND GUIDELINES BULLETIN – STATE COMPETITION INFORMATION Welcome to the 2014-15 school year. We have a lot of positive changes happening in the Spirit world! I hope to see you at the upcoming CHSCA conference July 25th and 26th 2014. While the philosophy of CHSAA remains the same in regard to the experience and participation for student-athletes, there are some exciting major changes. This attached bulletin contains the guidelines, policies, by-laws and changes that are critical for you, your student-athletes and your program. This resource is a tool that is meant to be used throughout the regular season and post season. This portion of the bulletin is only sport specific to spirit, for general information for all coaches regarding; eligibility, transfers, Sunday contact, etc., please see General Guidelines and the Sports Medicine Bulletin link. Diane Shuck, Athletic Director for Air Academy High School, will chair the committee for the 2014-15 year. The next spirit committee meeting will be held December 16, 2014 at 9:30 am at the CHSAA office. I look forward to serving as your spirit commissioner for the 2014-15 season. The State Spirit Championships will be held at The Denver Coliseum on December 5 & 6 2014. I wish you luck in your upcoming season and assisting you in any way possible. I would like to thank coaches for their time, dedication, and commitment to developing student athletes and providing lifelong lessons. -

The Tournament Committee will evaluate any activities which do not help the tournament pursue these goals. 2 | P a g e HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT RULES 1) The Pioneer Classic Tournaments are USA Hockey sanctioned tournaments. USA Hockey rules regarding age classification will be followed. 2) A mandatory credentials check will take place for all team managers. Team managers must have a binder or an electronic copy of the following: a) Team’s official USA Hockey roster (T1) approved/certified by the state/league organization registrar. Rosters must include at least one (1) team manager. b) Travel permits for International teams. We will need lead time for verification and must be submitted a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the start of the tournament. 3) The entry fees for the tournament and Guaranteed games are as follows; a) Divisions 12UAA/11UAAA . Friday will consist of all cheer prelims and Saturday morning will consist of all dance prelims. Followed by a clearing of the house and a final showcase Saturday night. While the philosophy of CHSAA remains the same in regards to the experience and participation for student- athletes, there are some exciting major changes. The attached bulletin contains the guidelines, policies, by- laws, and changes that are critical for you, your student-athletes, and your program. This resource is a tool that is meant to be used throughout the regular season and post season. OTHER HOCKEY LEAGUES {Appendix 4.1, to Sports Facility Reports, Volume 15} Research completed as of August 15, 2014 AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE (AHL) (AAA) League Update: The AHL had three team changes in 2013–2014: The Connecticut Whale changed their name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack; the Houston Aeros relocated to Des Moines, Iowa and became the Iowa Wild; and the Peoria Rivermen moved to the Southern Professional Hockey League. With the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat (now Adirondack Flames) and the Adirondack Phantoms (now Lehigh Valley Phantoms), the AHL realigned the league. The Flames will be play in the North Division and the Phantoms will be playing in the East Division. The Syracuse Crunch moved from the East Division to the Northeast Division. Lake Erie moved from the North Division to the Midwest Division and the Iowa Wild moved from the Midwest to the West Division. Additionally, the NHL and AHL have discussed moving teams west in order to accommodate the NHL's western franchises. Having teams on the west coast would make player transfers easier from the minor leagues to the NHL for the western teams.
