While the philosophy of CHSAA remains the same regarding the experience and participation for student-athletes, there are some exciting major changes. We continue to have a lot of amazing changes happening in the Spirit world! This year has no exceptions, as we are moving to a three-day state championship event. The format and schedule are TBD. The attached bulletin contains the guidelines, policies, by-laws, and changes that are critical for you, your student-athletes, and your program. This resource is a tool that is meant to be used throughout the regular season and post season. This portion of the bulletin is only sport specific to spirit, for general information for all coaches regarding; eligibility, transfers, Sunday contact, etc., please refer to the CHSAA Bylaws. I look forward to serving as your spirit commissioner for the 2020-21 season. The State Spirit Championships will be held at The Denver Coliseum on February11-13. The format and schedule are TBD. I wish you luck in your upcoming season and assisting you in any way possible. I would like to thank coaches for their time, dedication, and commitment to developing student athletes and providing lifelong lessons. This bulletin provides the regulations for spirit operations, but never supersedes the regulations found in the Constitution and Bylaws nor the NFHS Rulebook. The By-laws should be read prior to the season and reviewed with your athletic director. You will receive your NFHS Rulebook, Constitution and Bylaws, as well as other pertinent information in your school boxes and school mailings. All bulletins will be posted online in three sections. The GENERAL GUIDELINES, SPORT SPECIFIC, AND SPORTS MEDICINE HANDBOOK. Please read all sections in their entirety. MAJOR CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR'S REPORT: A. The Spirit championships will go to a three-day format beginning with the 2020 state championship. B. Cheer and dance will be recognized as individual categories. II. RATIONALE: A. A three-day format is required for the growth and safety of our state championships. B. To recognize and acknowledge the difference between cheer and dance. III. FINANCIAL IMPACT: A. Yes, may increase travel cost. B. Yes, schools will have to pay a separate participation fee for cheer and a separate participation fee for dance. IV.     OTHER HOCKEY LEAGUES {Appendix 4.1, to Sports Facility Reports, Volume 15} Research completed as of August 15, 2014 AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE (AHL) (AAA) League Update: The AHL had three team changes in 2013–2014: The Connecticut Whale changed their name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack; the Houston Aeros relocated to Des Moines, Iowa and became the Iowa Wild; and the Peoria Rivermen moved to the Southern Professional Hockey League. With the relocation of the Abbotsford Heat (now Adirondack Flames) and the Adirondack Phantoms (now Lehigh Valley Phantoms), the AHL realigned the league. The Flames will be play in the North Division and the Phantoms will be playing in the East Division. The Syracuse Crunch moved from the East Division to the Northeast Division. Lake Erie moved from the North Division to the Midwest Division and the Iowa Wild moved from the Midwest to the West Division. Additionally, the NHL and AHL have discussed moving teams west in order to accommodate the NHL's western franchises. Having teams on the west coast would make player transfers easier from the minor leagues to the NHL for the western teams.
