The average age of contact is 15, though it is not uncommon for a youth of 12-13 to be approached by traffickers. Increasingly, the perpetrators are also young – with the average age of recruiters who exploit vulnerabilities in this group being between the ages of 18-24. Secondary teachers in the Montreal area have been reporting troubling episodes of their students being recruited for sex work, but are often unsure how to recognize when their students are vulnerable, what resources are available to support their students, and how to intervene.
