NOTICE OF EVENTS:

 RCMP AWARENESS SESSION FOR TEACHERS AND SOCIAL WORKERS IN SCHOOLS: SEX TRAFFICKING IN MONTREAL SCHOOLS

Sex Trafficking in Montreal Area Secondary Schools: Recognizing, Prevention and Information Support session for Educators, School Social Workers & Counsellors

Sex trafficking has increased sharply in Canada since 2009. 93% of people who are recruited for trafficking are girls and young women. The average age of contact is 15, though it is not uncommon for a youth of 12-13 to be approached by traffickers. Increasingly, the perpetrators are also young – with the average age of recruiters who exploit vulnerabilities in this group being between the ages of 18-24. Secondary teachers in the Montreal area have been reporting troubling episodes of their students being recruited for sex work, but are often unsure how to recognize when their students are vulnerable, what resources are available to support their students, and how to intervene. Please join us for an information and awareness raising session designed for educators, school administrators and those involved in the psychosocial care of students, delivered by:

Montreal RCMP Human Trafficking Awareness Coordinator Melina Larizza Monday February 13th, 5:30 -7:30 pm Jack Cram Auditorium (room 129) Faculty of Education, McGill University
