From this, perceived brand personality traits may manifest among consumers. This study investigates how consumers perceive video game console brand personalities. Although previous studies have looked at media brand personalities in television channels and newspapers, none have applied Aaker’s Brand Personality Scale Dimensions (1997) towards video game consoles. The seventh generation of video game consoles was selected, since it has recently ended with the advent of the eighth generation of video game consoles. The video game consoles examined include Nintendo’s Wii, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3. A convenience sample of undergraduate students at a large southeastern university was selected, and principal component factor analyses were conducted for each video game brand personality, as well as a composite factor analysis to look at overall consumer perceptions of video game brand personalities across all three seventh generation video game consoles.
