YOU'RE PRESIDENT . 855 New York State, St. John’s Lodge, founded in 1757, were concerned about one of their most prized possessions: a decorative Bible that was printed in 1767 and had been on display in Fraunces Tavern the day the Twin Towers fell.3 No one had been able to check on the book for two days after the attack. There was a fear that gas leaks in the area could ignite a fire that would damage or destroy the Bible, and thus the Masons asked the Port Authority Police of New York and New Jersey to help them retrieve it, and received a police escort.4 As the police cruiser entered lower Manhattan, Thomas Savini, the Director of the Chancellor Robert R. Livingston Masonic Library in New York City, was shocked and unnerved by the absence of life on the usually chaotic streets. “[T]he air was filled with dust and smoke, and it looked like dusk, even though it was mid afternoon . .”5 The Tavern was covered with rubble and debris, but the building itself appeared to be undamaged.6 Anxiously, Mr. Savini entered and approached the display case where the Bible was housed. He found the precious book unharmed, and carefully wrapped it in the blanket he brought with him to protect the old tome.7 Had this Bible been destroyed or lost as a result of the 9/11 attack, Osama Bin Laden might have claimed yet another cause for celebrating the success of the mission, aside from the murder of three thousand civilians on American soil and the destruction of a modern landmark that plausibly represented the American, if not Western, com- mercial and economic order.8 This potential source of satisfaction was one that Bin their stores and restaurants dark, owners of the host of small businesses in the area were unable to examine the damage or begin to calculate how the disaster had affected them.”); Lower Manhattan to Stay Closed, N.Y. Downstage right is a small, trellised arbor, shaped like a sea shell, with a decorative bulb hanging from its forward‐curving roof. Carden chairs and a table are scattered about. A garbage pail on the ground next to the porch steps, a wire leaf‐burner near it. On the rise: It is early Sunday morning. Joe Keller is sitting in the sun reading the want ads of the Sunday paper, the other sections of which lie neatly on the ground beside him.

Ph.D. Introduction Nichole Yalsovac Prophetic revelation, or Divination, dates back to the earliest known times of human existence. The oldest of all Chinese texts, the I Ching, is a divination system older than recorded history. James Legge says in his translation of I Ching: Book Of Changes (1996), “The desire to seek answers and to predict the future is as old as civilization itself.” Mankind has always had a desire to know what the future holds. Evidence shows that methods of divination, also known as fortune telling, were used by the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, Babylonians and the Sumerians (who resided in what is now Iraq) as early as six‐thousand years ago. Divination was originally a device of royalty and has often been an essential part of religion and medicine. Significant leaders and royalty often employed priests, doctors, soothsayers and astrologers as advisers and consultants on what the future held. Every civilization has held a belief in at least some type of divination. The point of divination in the ancient world was to ascertain the will of the gods. In fact, divination is so called because it is assumed to be a gift of the divine, a gift from the gods. This gift of obtaining knowledge of the unknown uses a wide range of tools and an enormous variety of techniques, as we will see in this course. No matter which method is used, the most imperative aspect is the interpretation and presentation of what is seen.

Give it each time you recite the Scout Oath and Law. When a Scout or Scouter raises the Scout sign, all Scouts should make the sign, too, and come to silent attention. To give the Scout sign, cover the nail of the little finger of your right hand with your right thumb, then raise your right arm bent in a 90-degree angle, and hold the three middle fingers of your hand upward. Extend your left hand to another Scout and firmly grasp his left hand. The fingers do not interlock. Describe the Scout Badge The badge is shaped like the north point on an old compass. The design resembles an arrowhead or a trefoil – a flower with three leaves.

    JETS 43/4 (December 2000) 619–636 THE BIBLE CODE: “TEACHING THEM [WRONG] THINGS” RICHARD A. TAYLOR* I. INTRODUCTION Michael Drosnin, author of the 1997 New York Times best-selling book entitled The Bible Code, tells of ˘ying to Israel on 1 September 1994 in order to convey to then Israeli prime minister Rabin an urgent and sober warning. Drosnin had learned that the only time the name Yitzhak Rabin appeared in the Bible code it intersected the words “assassin that will assassinate.” Drosnin had therefore concluded that the life of the Prime Minister was in grave danger. But he also thought that if immediate action were taken this imminent catastrophe could perhaps be avoided. When he arrived in Israel, Drosnin met with Israeli poet Chaim Guri, a close friend of the prime min- ister, who in turn conveyed Drosnin’s message to Rabin. Drosnin urged that the Bible code message concerning Rabin be taken seriously, especially in light of the fact that the same Bible code had also accurately announced the prior assassinations of Anwar Sadat, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, and Mahatma Gandi. Drosnin’s mission, however, did not meet with success. Less than a year later, on 4 November 1995, Yitzhak Rabin was unexpectedly killed by a Jewish assassin.1 * Richard A.     Tip Sheets: Engaging Faith Communities V1.2 Engagement Guidelines: Orthodox Christian Leaders Religion Called: Orthodox Christianity Adherents Consider Themselves: Christian and are called Orthodox Christians House of Worship: Church or Cathedral First Point of Contact: Senior parish priest a.k.a. pastor Religious Leader: Priest or Deacon Spoken Direct Address: Use “Father” Physical Interaction: Handshake O.K. across sexes HOUSE OF WORSHIP Churches are local houses of worship. A parish refers to the congregation of a particular church. Parishes often have non-sacred spaces such as multipurpose rooms, schools, gyms, or offices. Cathedrals are large centers of worship for an entire regional area run by a Diocese or Archdiocese. Monasteries and convents house monks and nuns (respectively), and may include a chapel and areas for instruction/work. RELIGIOUS LEADERS Ordained/Commissioned/Licensed Leaders Orthodox Christian leadership is hierarchical with each national/ethnic branch having its own structure and leadership. Regional leadership generally falls to bishops (or archbishops, catholicos, or metropolitans). Priests and deacons provide sacramental and spiritual leadership; priests often are in charge of a local parish. Both priests and deacons are permitted to marry. Holy Orders and Lay Leaders Monks and nuns are non-ordained (lay) leaders (except for hiermonks who are ordained priests or deacons) who have usually taken a vow of poverty, celibacy, and obedience and often live an active vocation of both prayer and service. Many monks, nuns, and laypersons have important leadership positions —avoid assumptions based on title. Some U.S. parishes have lay administrators who take on many of the roles once the exclusive domain of clergy.

So, I’ll be candid in saying that this is my eighth attempt at writing it. I’ve started and stopped, deleted and retyped, closed my laptop and reopened it. Never in my life have I found it this difficult to write, never in my life has my body physically ached at the thought of sitting down and spending time in my own headspace. Right now, my headspace is the last place on earth I want to be. I’ve decided that this will be my last attempt at writing, and whatever comes out now will remain on the page. I am currently sitting on my couch under a pile of blankets, reclined back as far as my seat will allow me to go. My Amazon Alexa is belting music from an oldies playlist, and my dad is sitting at the kitchen table singing along to “December, 1963” by The Four Seasons as he works.
