Victorian Heritage Database place details - 1/1/2014 Darbyshire Hill No.1 & No. 2 Bridges Location: Wodonga-Cudgewa Railway, midway between Bullioh & Darbyshire, BULLIOH, TOWONG SHIRE Heritage Inventory (HI) Number: 1 Listing Authority: HI Extent of Registration: Statement of Significance: Darbyshire Hill Nos. 1 and 2 Bridges are single-track rail bridges of three-storey pier design and combine standard fifteen feet timber-beam approach spans with twenty feet rolled-steel-joist spans over the main channels. The timber piers on these bridges are fitted with rare double-longitudinal walings. No. 2: timber and steel composite rail bridge 96.6 metres (317 feet) long, with unusually tall 4 pile timber piers (max. height, 21.3 metres, 79 feet), six timber-beam approach spans each of fifteen feet (4.6 metres), eleven rolled-steel-joist spans each of twenty feet (6.1 metres), and a straight deck of standard transverse-timber design. This bridge, 21.3 metres high, is the tallest railway bridge of timber and steel joist construction to survive in Victoria. No. 1 timber and steel composite rail bridge 65.48 metres (215 feet) long, with unusually tall 4 pile timber piers (max. height, 16.45 metres, 54 feet), and a curving transverse-timber deck. This bridge has five timber-beam spans each of standard fifteen feet (4.6 metre) Victorian Railways design, and seven rolled-steel-joist spans each of twenty feet (6.1 metres). Darbyshire Hill Nos.1 and 2 Bridges were built in 1916 as part of the Wodonga-Cudgewa railway. The line was closed in 1981. -

Key objectives of the research included identifying the difference of preferences and needs of residents in the Warriewood area from the face-to-face and online survey. Sample N=446 interviews were completed. Interviewing 446 respondents were recruited online, this was conducted at between the 4th – 24th March 2019. KOORAGANG WETLANDS: RETROSPECTIVE OF AN INTEGRATED ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION PROJECT IN THE HUNTER RIVER ESTUARY P Svoboda Hunter Local Land Services, Paterson NSW Introduction: At first glance, the Hunter River estuary near Newcastle NSW is a land of contradictions. It is home to one of the world’s largest coal ports and a large industrial complex as well as being the location of a large internationally significant wetland. The remarkable natural productivity of the Hunter estuary at the time of European settlement is well documented. Also well documented are the degradation and loss of fisheries and other wildlife habitat in the estuary due to over 200 years of draining, filling, dredging and clearing (Williams et al., 2000). However, in spite of extensive modification, natural systems of the estuary retained enough value and function for large areas to be transformed by restoration activities that aimed to show industry and environmental conservation could work together to their mutual benefit. By establishing partnerships and taking a collaborative and adaptive approach, the project was able to implement restoration and related activities on a landscape basis, working across land ownership and management boundaries (Kooragang Wetland Rehabilitation Project, 2010). The Kooragang Wetland Rehabilitation Project (KWRP) was launched in 1993 to help compensate for the loss of fisheries and other wildlife habitat at suitable sites in the Hunter estuary. This paper revisits the expectations and planning for the project as presented in a paper to the INTECOL’s V international wetlands conference in 1996 (Svoboda and Copeland, 1998), reviews the project’s activities, describes outcomes and summarises issues faced and lessons learnt during 24 years of implementing a large, long-term, integrated, adaptive and community-assisted ecological restoration project. -

The effects of species of seagrass (Zostera capricorni and Posidonia australis) on spatial and temporal heterogeneity in the demography of estuarine populations of the palaemonid prawn Macrobrachium intermedium across 65 km of the Sydney region, southeastern Australia, were examined. Three estuaries were sampled in 1983 and 1984 to assess the magnitude of intra- and inter- estuary variability in demographic characteristics among populations. Species of seagrass had no effect on the demographic patterns of populations: differences in the magnitude and directions of change in abundances, recruitment, reproductive characteristics, size structures and growth were as great among populations within each species of seagrass as those between the 2 seagrasses Abiotic factors, such as the location of a meadow in relation to depth of water and distance offshore, and the interactions of these factors with recruiting larvae are hypothesised to have greater influence than the species of seagrass in determining the distribution and abundance of these prawns. Spatial and temporal heterogeneity in demography was similar across all spatial scales sampled: among meadows (50 m to 3 km apart) in an estuary and among meadows in all 3 estuaries (10 to 65 km apart). Variability in demographic processes among populations in the Sydney region was most likely due to stochastic factors extrinsic to the seagrasses then~selves.I conclude that the demography of seagrass-dwelling estuarine populations of M. -
