Both students have been selected through Staff Selection Commission for Indian Information Services under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mr. Fida-e-Rasool, a student of 2010-12 successfully qualified for training program of duration of one year in Turkey, sponsored by Indialogue Foundation, Hyderabad. One of the student (Batch 2011-13) have been selected for the post of PRO, J& K State Government. Our Students Pursuing M.PHIL/PH.D. in Other Universities M. Phil. Ph.D. 16 12 ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE A large number of eminent journalist, filmmakers and media persons of national and international stature are associated with the department in various capacities. Mr. Saeed Naqvi, Eminent Journalist, New Delhi delivered a Guest Lecture on 09th November 2014 on the topic “Muslims and International Media’ and interacted with the students of M.A.( MCJ) at the Department. The students of MCJ Department interacted with Padamshree Tom Alter, Actor & Theatre Artist on the occasion of stage Play “Maulana Azad Ke Qalm Se” by Pierrot’s Troupe on 10th November 2014, at DDE, Auditorium. Prof. O.P Singh, Director, Director, M.M.M Institute of Journalism, Varansi-UP delivered a Guest Lecture on 28th November 2014 on the topic “Vedic Model of Mass Communication’’ and interacted with the students of MA( MCJ) at the Department. SEMINAR/SYMPOSIA National Seminar: To Commemorate the Centenary Celebration of Khawaja Ahmad Abbas, the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, MANUU held a two – day Centenary Celebration titled “K.A. Abbas: „The Legend, the Legacy‟ on 26th and 27th March 2014. Dr. Aziz Qureshi, Governor of Uttarakhand, addressed the inaugural session as Chief Guest on 26th March 2014. Dr. Qureshi later released the bilingual department lab journal “Izhaar”. The programme also included an audio – visual presentation on K.A. Abbas by the group Hamari Urdu Mohabbat (HUM) followed by a play “You will come back Bapu” by the Delhi based – Pierrots Troups. On 27th March 2014, One day National Seminar was organized on K.A. Abbas Cinema, Journalism and Literature‟ in collaboration with Khawaja Ahmad Abbas Centenary Celebration Committee, New Delhi. Mr. Anjum Rajabali, renowned Hindi film script writer of films like Rajneeti, Ghulam, Drohkaal, Kachche Dhaage. The legend of Bhagat Singh, Mr. Sagar Sarhadi, renowned dialogue and screenplay writer of films like Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila, Chandni and Faasle, Mr. Shamim Tarique, Senior Journalist, Mumbai and Prof. Baig Ehsas, Ex HoD, Urdu, HCU, Hyderabad Presented papers in the seminar. Two days workshop on "Video & Lecture Based Course on Research Methodology" held on 22nd & 23rd January 2013. FIELD VISITS As part of the syllabus, the Students of M.A (MCJ) final year were taken for an educational Tour to New Delhi for a duration 10 days from 16th March 2014 to 24th March 2014. During the said visit students have visited many media houses like ABP News, Lok Sabha TV, IBN 7, Aalami Sahara TV and Urdu Daily Inquilaab, Dainik Jagran, Urdu Roznama Sahara, DAVP, IIMC, MCRC, JMI, Community Radio, Delhi University, UNI etc., and interacted with the famous personalities of the said TV channels/Media houses like Mr. Saji Zaman, Editor-in-Chief, ABP News, Mr. Rajiv Mishra, CEO, Lok Sabha TV, Mr. Syed Faisal Ali, Group Editor, Sahara Publications and Aalami Sahara TV and Mr. Naresh Praveen, Chief Editor, News and features, IBN 7, and Senior Anchor, Mr. Neeraj Vajpayee, Joint Editor Cum General Manager, UNI, Mr. G. Mohanti, Director General, DAVP, Dr. P. Upendra, HR Head, Dainik Jagran Publications, Mr. Abid Anwar, renowned Urdu Columnist, Mr. Mohammad Imran, UNI. Students had also opportunities to meet and interacted with Union Ministers K. Rahman Khan, Mr. Tarique Anwar, MOS as well as Former Lok Sabha speaker, Mr. P.A Sngma, Chairman – Press Council of India, Justice Markandey Katju, Mr. Ali Anwar Ansari and Mohammed Adeeb, Members of Parliament along with others. Students were also visited India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi and had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Siraj Qureshi, Chairman of IICC. Students also paid homage to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad at his graveyard at Jama Masjid, Delhi. On 26th March 2014 students were taken on ETV – Urdu channel at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad and Radio City, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad to see the functioning of the Studio/Media offices and interact with famous personalities of the Media houses and their staff. .

I, ISSUE 6/ SEPEMBER 2013 ISSN 2286-4822, www.euacademic.org IMPACT FACTOR: 0.485 (GIF) Identity of Muslim Women in Hindi Movies KUMAR PARAG Department of Humanities NIT, Jalandhar India Abstract: Hindi movies are made with male gaze in view, the images of women are discussed sociologically or semiotically or as subservience. In such circumstances when Muslim women are projected, she is doubly marginalized. First as a woman, second as a representative of minority community. But this stereotype images were broken by Hindi movies like Nikaah (marriage) in 1982, Bazaar (market) in 1982, Bombay in 1994 and Fiza (atmosphere) in 2003. In these movies female protagonists enjoy key positions and try to break out of social environmental forces which are controlled by men. It also poses question to the audience of gender issues especially belonging to middle classes and the process of questioning is carried out at multiple levels through characterization and narrative modes. Here, the characters of Muslim women are not treated in abstract manner; in fact the basic projection centers around the need to be accepted and respected individually with Muslim woman’s journey towards self-definition. The paper is an enquiry of the representation of Muslim women in Hindi movies where a woman has to face social prejudices, orthodoxies and beliefs which are articulated and challenged, formulating a counter – hegemonic feminist discourse.
