Jaayid³ 1Department of Marine Vertebrates, Marine Science Centre University of Basrah, Iraq ¹ Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, College of Agriculture University of Basrah, Iraq ³ Department of Animal Production, College of Agriculture Basrah University, Basrah, Iraq *Corresponding author’s email: abdul19532001 [AT] yahoo.com ____________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT-- Morphometric and meristic characteristics and DNA fingerprint analysis were applied to identify three species of Carangidss belonging to the genus Alepes [A. djedaba (Forsskål, 1775), A. kleinii (Bloch, 1793) and A. vari (Cuvier, 1833)] from Iraqi marine waters, during the period from January 2014 to June 2015. A. vari was recorded for the first time in Iraqi waters. Second dorsal fin rays ranged from 22 to 24 in A. djedaba, 25 to 26 in A. kleinii and 26 to 28 in A. vari. Anal fin rays were 19 - 20 in A. djedaba, 21 - 22 in A. kleinii and 20 - 22 in A.vari. Gill rakers on lower limb were 27 - 31 in A. djedaba, 27 – 29 in A. kleinii and 22 – 23 in A. vari. The DNA fingerprints of species of the genus Alepes were identified using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (PCR-RAPD) with six primers: P1 (212), P2 (239), P3 (244), P4 (250), P5 (265), and P6 (347). The numbers of bands generated by primers were 37 in A. -

An annotated list of the 63 species in 23 genera of carangid fishes known from Australian waters is presented. Included in these 63 are eight endemic species, eight new Australian records (Alepes vari, Carangoides equula, C. plagiotaenia, C. talamparoides, Caranx lugubris, Decapterus kurroides, D. tabl and Seriola rivoliana) and a new species in the genus Alepes. A generic key and specific keys to Alectis, Alepes, Carangoides, Scomberoides, Selar, Ulua and Uraspis are given. The systematics of the 32 Australian species of Alectis, Alepes, Atule, Carangoides, "Caranx", Elagatis, Gnathanodon,Megalaspis,Pantolabus, Scomberoides, Selar, Selaroides, Seriolina, Ulua and Uraspis are covered in detail. For each species a recommended common name, other common names, Australian secondary synonymy, diagnosis, colour notes, description, comparison with other species, maximum recorded size, ecological notes and distribution are given. B. Siddik1* , Md Abu Hanif1, Ashfaqun Nahar2, Md Reaz Chaklader1 and Rowan Kleindienst3 Abstract Background: The Bay of Bengal coast, Bangladesh is a hotspot of fisheries abundance and diversity. A new species of Carangid family Alepes kleinii is recorded and described for the first time in the coastal waters of Bangladesh. Results: A total of 29 individuals of Alepes kleinii were collected from the surveyed areas between January to March, 2016. Validation of this species was confirmed by phenotypic characteristics including body and fins colour, shape, vertical stripes, number of fin rays etc. which were found to be identical to that of the Alepes kleinii described in existing literature. The regression parameter value (b = 2.81) of the length-weight relationship (W=aLb) indicates that the Bay of Bengal provides favourable environmental conditions for the growth and development of this species. Conclusion: The discovery of the razorbelly scad in these waters provide valuable information regarding species distribution and extension, location and habitat preference. This information is prerequisite for the sound management of the coastal fisheries of Bangladesh. A color image of an approximately 5 cm fork length juvenile of C. bucculentus from Western Australia was kindly sent to me by John Pogonoski. This specimen has a much deeper body than the mimic carangid and its coloration is very different. Kerala, India. *[email protected], #[email protected] Abstract - The proximate composition, amino acid profiles, fatty acid profiles and mineral contents of Alepes djedaba was determined in this study. The fish muscles contained high moisture content and the average value for moisture was 78.2 ± 1.73 in males and 79.2 ± 1.74 in females. The fish was a lean fish as they contain very low fat (<2%) but rich in proteins (20.96% in males and 20.36% in females). They were rich in all essential and non essential amino acids. Good proportion of ω-3 poly unsaturated fatty acids were recorded, especially Eicosapentaenoic acids (4.53% in males and 5.38% in females) and Docosahexaenoic acids (4.8% in males and 6.52% in females). The EPA: DHA ratio was 0.93% in males and 0.82 % in females and has a high n3/ n6 fatty acid ratio of 4.2% and 6.2% .The abundant minerals in the muscles were potassium (16.6% in males and 12.95% in females) and phosphorus (23.86% in males and 8.39% in females). The Na/ K value was very low. The trace elements such as zinc (0.14% in males and 0.04%in females) and iron (0.92% in males and 0.35% in females) were found to be in good quantity. -

Doğdu1, Serpil Karan1 1Molecular Ecology and Fisheries Genetics Laboratory, Marine Science Department, Faculty of Marine Science and Technology, Iskenderun Technical University, 31220 Iskenderun, Hatay, Turkey 2Fisheries Faculty, Firat University, 23119 Elazig, Turkey Abstract A checklist of non-indigenous marine fishes including bony, cartilaginous and jawless distributed along the Turkish Marine Waters was for the first time generated in the present study. The number of records of non-indigenous fish species found in Turkish marine waters were 101 of which 89 bony, 11 cartilaginous and 1 jawless. In terms of occurrence of non-indigenous fish species in the surrounding Turkish marine waters, the Mediterranean coast has the highest diversity (92 species), followed by the Aegean Sea (50 species), the Marmara Sea (11 species) and the Black Sea (2 species). The Indo-Pacific origin of the non-indigenous fish species is represented with 73 species while the Atlantic origin of the non-indigenous species is represented with 22 species. Only first occurrence of a species in the Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara and Black Sea Coasts of Turkey is given with its literature in the list.
