Tuesday 6Th of August Press trip in Helgeland, Northern Norway Leirskardalen – Okstindan – Bleikvasslia – Røssvatnet - Hemnesberget Dates: 7th – 10th of August 2014 Explore the inner parts of Helgeland – www.visithelgeland.com Helgeland is the southernmost part of Northern Norway. The inner parts of Helgeland boarders to Sweden and offers the mountain massive, Okstindan including Northern Norway’s tallest mountain Oksskolten which towers 1916 meters above sea level and the glacier Okstindbreen. Situated by the glacier is the unique Rabot Cabin, designed by the well known Norwegian architect bureau, Jarmund/Vigsnæs Arkitekter. We will visit the municipality of Hemnes, an area in the inner parts of Helgeland, hike to the Rabot Cabin and be the first people to stay the night at this unique cabin, one week before the official opening. We will also learn about southern Sami culture and spend the night by Norway’s second largest lake, Røssvatnet and explore some of the well marked walking trails in the area. Our last night will be spent in an art gallery in the idyllic village of Hemnesberget, by the fjord, here we will attend the Hemnes jazz festival. Furuhatt) THURSDAY 14:47 Arrival Mo i Rana 15:00 – Transfer and stop for luggage storage and change of clothing before 16:30 leaving for the hike to the Rabot Cabin. 15:30 – Hike to the Rabot Cabin. Approximately 3 hours hike to the brand new Norwegian Trekking Associations cabin, the Rabot Cabin. With its impressive design the cabin has already drawn a lot of attention even before it’s finished. We will get a sneak peak and stay overnight at the cabin one week before the official opening. The hike will start at approximately 600m and will take us up to 1200 metres above sea level. A local guide will accompany you on this trip. This part of the glacier is snow covered all year round. Local guide. 11:30 – Lunch 12:00 12:00 – Return down the mountain. We will enjoy this peaceful and spectacular 14:00 mountain area as we head back down the mountain. 14:30 – Visit to the museum and traditional cookhouse in Leirskardalen from 1620. 16:00 We will learn about traditional baking how to make the local - “kamkaka”. Visit to Bleikvasslia and “køta”, a tipi like gathering point for the locals. We 17.30- will meet with a local person, who will tell stories about the sami lifestyle 18.30 and life in a small Norwegian mountain village. Arrival at Stekvasselv Gård (farm). Situated by Norway’s second largest 19.00 lake, Røssvatnet, Stekvasselv Gård offers farm accommodation, in beautiful surroundings and with the Okstindan massive as a backdrop. Enjoy your lunch out in the nature. 15:30 - For the 19th time Hemnes Jazz- and Blues festival will be organised in 2014. Hemnesberget is a creative village and boasts an idyllic location by the fjord, Ranfjorden. Statkraft Energi AS er konsesjonær. NVE har lagt vekt på hensynet til naturverdiene som finnes i vassdraget og balansert dette mot hensynet til Røssågareguleringenes store betydning for kraftproduksjon og kraftsystemet. Vi anbefaler at det innføres nye og moderne standard konsesjonsvilkår for Røssågareguleringene. Vilkårene vil gi myndighetene hjemmel til å pålegge relevante, avbøtende tiltak. O. & Mickelson, M.: A Rb-Sr age study from the Mosjøen unit, Helgeland Nappe Complex and its bearing on the timing of tectonometamorphic events within the Uppermost Al­ lochthon, CentralScandinavian Caledonides, Norway.Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 66, pp. 263- 270. Oslo 1986. ISSN 0029-196X. The Mosjøen unit within the Helgeland Nappe Complex is made up of a polydeformed supracrustal sequence consisting mainly of greenschists, greenstones and layers of calcite and dolomite marbles, which have been intruded by large masses of igneous rocks ranging in composition from gabbroic to granitic. The main structural elements and the metamorphic maximum are related to the 02- deformation. The Mosjøen gabbro, yielding an igneous Rb-Sr mineral isochron age of 420 ± 8 m.y. (10 = .70412 ± .00003), was emplaced during the 02 event. A 433 ± 11 m.y. total rock Rb-Sr isochron was obtained for a granitic dyke crosscutting the 02 structures. The geochronological data are inter­ preted to indicate a Silurian age for the main tectonometamorphic event (02) in the Mosjøen unit. Previous geochronological studies from other parts of the Uppermost AUochthon demonstrate strong early Caledonian (late Cambrian to early Ordovician) metamorphism and deformation prior to Sil­ urian deformation. The present tectonostratigraphic sequence within the Uppermost Allochthon was established during the main Caledonian thrusting event in the late Silurian to early Oevonian. B. O. Tørudbakken & M.

Johanna Pedersen was Dagmar’s grandmother’s name. BROTHERS AND SISTERS Three sisters and two brothers. One brother died before she was born. Other brother Kristian married and left for America. CHILDHOOD HOME Has not changed any from years ago. Her father built the house. Sister lives there now. CHILDHOOD Always happy. Always working. Doing something outside. SCHOOL There were four rooms in a building. The teachers were nice. CHURCH They went every Sunday. The pastor had only one church. Girls did farm work when their father died. Brother was not around much. CHRISTMAS Had a tree every year. Baked cookies and bread. Sang songs. Ate rice pudding on Christmas Eve. CHRISTMAS DAY Went to church. More Christmas in Norway than in the U.S. The feeling is different in Norway than here. When she was 17, Dagmar worked in a big household in Norway. She did the cooking. Was in charge of things on Sundays, ironing, washing, cleaning, etc. This was the Brontsag’s residence. She worked here for three years. 1 They had a fishing business in the winter.

Our vision is to identify general principles and patterns which can be used to explain variation in biological diversity based on some basic properties of the systems. Bioforsk Nord, Tjøtta har utført en verdivurdering og sårbarhetsvurdering for Spjeltfjelldalen, som et av flere prosjektet og tiltak Hemnes Reiseliv vil utføre for å nå et mål om bærekraftig reiselivsutvikling mot 2020. Spjeltfjelldalen er verdifull både med tanke på det rike fuglelivet relatert til det store, uberørte våtmarkskomplekset i dalen, botanikk og geologi. Store deler av dalen er vernet som naturreservat (Spjeltfjelldalen naturreservat). Da det er en potensiell konflikt mellom verneverdier og verdier generelt i dalen og økt ferdsel gjennom økt markedsføring, er det nødvendig å vurdere konsekvensene av dette gjennom en sårbarhetsvurdering. Man står overfor et paradoks når man snakker om ferdsel langs stien gjennom Spjeltfjelldalen.
