Press trip in Helgeland, Northern Norway Leirskardalen – Okstindan – Bleikvasslia – Røssvatnet - Hemnesberget Dates: 7th – 10th of August 2014 Explore the inner parts of Helgeland – www.visithelgeland.com Helgeland is the southernmost part of Northern Norway. The inner parts of Helgeland boarders to Sweden and offers the mountain massive, Okstindan including Northern Norway’s tallest mountain Oksskolten which towers 1916 meters above sea level and the glacier Okstindbreen. Situated by the glacier is the unique Rabot Cabin, designed by the well known Norwegian architect bureau, Jarmund/Vigsnæs Arkitekter. We will visit the municipality of Hemnes, an area in the inner parts of Helgeland, hike to the Rabot Cabin and be the first people to stay the night at this unique cabin, one week before the official opening. We will also learn about southern Sami culture and spend the night by Norway’s second largest lake, Røssvatnet and explore some of the well marked walking trails in the area. Our last night will be spent in an art gallery in the idyllic village of Hemnesberget, by the fjord, here we will attend the Hemnes jazz festival. Furuhatt) THURSDAY 14:47 Arrival Mo i Rana 15:00 – Transfer and stop for luggage storage and change of clothing before 16:30 leaving for the hike to the Rabot Cabin. 15:30 – Hike to the Rabot Cabin. Approximately 3 hours hike to the brand new Norwegian Trekking Associations cabin, the Rabot Cabin. With its impressive design the cabin has already drawn a lot of attention even before it’s finished. We will get a sneak peak and stay overnight at the cabin one week before the official opening. The hike will start at approximately 600m and will take us up to 1200 metres above sea level. A local guide will accompany you on this trip. This part of the glacier is snow covered all year round. Local guide. 11:30 – Lunch 12:00 12:00 – Return down the mountain. We will enjoy this peaceful and spectacular 14:00 mountain area as we head back down the mountain. 14:30 – Visit to the museum and traditional cookhouse in Leirskardalen from 1620. 16:00 We will learn about traditional baking how to make the local - “kamkaka”. Visit to Bleikvasslia and “køta”, a tipi like gathering point for the locals. We 17.30- will meet with a local person, who will tell stories about the sami lifestyle 18.30 and life in a small Norwegian mountain village. Arrival at Stekvasselv Gård (farm). Situated by Norway’s second largest 19.00 lake, Røssvatnet, Stekvasselv Gård offers farm accommodation, in beautiful surroundings and with the Okstindan massive as a backdrop. The farm is ideally situated for walking and hiking, with numerous of well marked trails leading from Stekvasselv. www.stekvasselv.com Accommodation in one of the houses on the farm. Shared bathroom facilities. Dinner. Your hosts will prepare dinner made from local specialities. SATURDAY Breakfast 09:00 – Activity at Stekvasselv. Join your hosts for a walk along one the many trails 14:00 and enjoy the views of this peaceful area. Enjoy your lunch out in the nature. 15:30 - For the 19th time Hemnes Jazz- and Blues festival will be organised in 2014. Hemnesberget is a creative village and boasts an idyllic location by the fjord, Ranfjorden.
