GARNIER & LINKER CONTEMPORARY CREATIONS IN UNIQUE MATERIALS 2016

Garnier & Linker collection was born out of experimentations of ancient materials and savoir-faire. Alabaster, obsidian, volcanic stone, bronze, plaster and cast glass: all this materials palette is revisited in a contemporary language. Every piece is handmade by French master craftsmen. Guillaume Garnier and Florent Linker are two French creators based in Paris. Their work is about giving a contemporary design to rare materials and savoir-faire. All pieces are handmade in small series by French master craftsmen.

As designers, they get their inspiration from decorative arts and sculpture, to create pure-shaped forms revealing their materiality. With their background in interior design, they offer objects that meet all demands of modern interiors, with bespoke options according to architects and decorators needs.

CREATORS Since their meeting at Ecole Camondo, they have worked in major studios such as India Mahdavi or Studio KO, on private and public projects. In 2013, they set up their own studio dedicated to conception of bespoke furniture and lighting for architects and decorators. When Guillaume and Florent joined to fully focus on designing furniture and lightings, they decided to start this adventure by digging further into the location where creation takes place: workshops. During several months, they hit the road to meet passionate crafstmen and understand their savoir-faire. This approach became the starting point of their creative process: designing from deep understanding of materials and techniques.

CREATIVE PROCESS Thanks to experiments, shapes started to emerge, the collection gradually came to life. Their background in interior design studios naturally led them to create fonctional products. Their will to reveal the beauty of materials led them to design lightings. The frst Garnier & Linker collection was born. Obsidian is a volcanic stone, formed by the rapid cooling of lava. It is a semi-precious and rare stone that can only be found in very few parts of the world. Blocks are transformed by lapidaries masters. Each obsidian is around 2 million years old. INSPIRATIONS

Alabaster is a naturally translucent stone, extracted from a few European quarries, and transformed by hand. Every stone is selected according to its beauty, whiteness and transparency. The magic of alabaster also comes from its veins pattern, different each time. Traditional bronze sand-casting technique allows high-fdelity shapes and a unique «skin» resulting from the contact between molten bronze and sand. Bronze is then patinated to give a large color palette to objects.

During the baking process, the wax shape melts and gets replaced by a solid glass volume. The thickness of massive glass gives a unique depth to shapes, and creates outstanding lighting effects.

Extracted from moutain fanks, Volvic volcanic stone shows a porous aspect that slightly vibrates under the light. From a lovely natural grey color, it turns to black when patinated. COLLECTION AURA in golden bronze and alabaster. AURA in white patinated bronze and obsidian.
