Photo: The Farmers Guardian Article. Farming Notes June 2013 The Farmers Guardian is a nationally circulated farming newspaper, read especially by livestock farmers. Recently I had a telephone call from them asking if they could publish a piece about our farm in their Farm Focus section. I said that I didn’t think that our farm was anything special but they thought that their readers would be interested as we had a mixture of income streams: milk production and retailing, sale of pedigree dairy cattle, a pedigree Charolais herd, a bull beef unit go ahead with the article and a reporter and photographer came to take details and lots of photographs of the stock, the milkand the bottles Higher and Lever of Dan, Stewardship Tom and myself. Scheme with farm visits – all projects thought to be of interest. I agreed that they could When the newspaper article, with two full pages and eight colour photos, was published, we were very pleased with it. We’ve had a lot of positive feed back so I guess it won’t do our business any harm. The only mistake, after editing, was that they reported Tom as married to my wife, Cath! On the whole, it was a great record and good to keep as a history of the farm. Letter to Great Longstone Parish Council, no Response Received We were surprised to read in Under The Edge, May 2013, parish notes ‘Equipment for older children’ about the ‘hoo-hah’ caused by the play area. It stated that the clerk visited the closest residents on 3 occasions, and on the minutes of this meeting it states that simply NOT true. The clerk visited 2 weof 4 were residents shown closest the final to plans.the play This area is only once, (presumably the other two households were out at the time) and showed us some preliminary plans of a one storey snake like structure which in with surroundings. None of us mind that we live next to a play area (it has been there a long time) what we do object to is the solid overbearing nature of the structures compared to what we had before. We were told by a councillor at the time that ‘you don’t buy a house for a view’, the trouble is we all bought houses with a view that has now Susan Kreit, Gavin Kreit, Lois Cocker, Ann Mactaggart & Tracey Mactaggart been significantly damaged. Village Hall News The Art Show this year will be held on the weekend of 27th and 28th July. The village hall management committee organise this event to help raise money to run the hall. Julia 640543 2 Letter to the Parish Council “The following letter was submitted to GLPC prior to their last meeting on 8th May, but was dismissed as irrelevant. The survey was of 136 homes, obtaining 165 signatures, and representing 321 residents, with over 80% of responses against building a MUGA on the recreation ground. The attitude of the GLPC towards the opinions of parishioners, including those who will be most affected is extremely worrying, disappointing and frustrating” Gavin Kreit, Deepfield, Sunny Bank To :GLPC 30th April 2013. Please find enclosed a summary of a recent survey of local residents in Great Longstone, regarding the proposed MUGA location in the centre of the village. The question asked was a simple one ‘Do you agree with the proposed location or not’. The purpose was to visit as many homes as possible in the heart of GL, concentrating on those closest to the proposed site and working out. All homes were visited (some several times) in the target area, with a good coverage achieved. Due to people being out, away, holiday homes and so on it was not possible to obtain responses from every home. Whether counting homes, total residents within those homes, or signatures, the results are much the same, over 80% against.
