And, thanks to Ms !Car Magnets (Page 5) Kimberly, Ms Kris, Miss Kylie, Ms Kristie, Miss Kayla, Miss Allie and Ms Tonya for !Parking at 12th Street (Page 5) leading all the dancers. We also appreciate all of the help that we had from our !Fall Barre Fitness Schedule and NEW Tank Tops parents!! You all looked so great in your Pointe! MOM and Pointe! DAD shirts!! Each (Page 6) and every parade participant made our parade unit something people will be talking !Adult Dance Cardio Fitness Class (Page 6) !Performing Arts Group (Page 6) about all year! !Monster Mash Dance Camp (Page 7) !Studio Slumber Party (Page 7) FIRST EVER Festival Street Performances... !Birthday Parties (Page 8) We were thrilled to showcase several dances from the 2014-15 dance season on !Yofi Make Up Kits (Page 8) Main Street following the parade. It was so fun to see TTPDA dancers in the !Sportsmanship (Page 8) intersection of Main Street & 1st Avenue NE performing for hundreds of Dozinky !MEA Dance Schedule (Page 8) onlookers!! And then an hour later, Dozinky attendees were able to watch TTPDA !New Pointe! MOM & DAD Shirts (Page 9) dancers perform on the other side of town on Main Street in front of Hotel Broz. !Dress Code (Page 9) TTPDA is honored to have had this opportunity to provide free entertainment at the !Open Office Hours (Page 9) Dozinky festival. Please inquire with your instructor if your child has not been measured. !2016 Spring Show The To The Pointe! Dance Academy Spring Show will be held the weekend of May 13-15, 2016 at !Winter Show the New Prague High School. Dress Rehearsal will take place on May 1. Please block these dates off All dancers are required to be available to perform on your calendar as participation is required. Show at the To The Pointe! Dance Academy Winter Show times are yet to be determined. Stay tuned! on Sunday, December 6. The Winter Show will be held at the New Prague Middle School (gymnasium). Show times are TBD. We will rehearse for this show on Saturday, December 5th at the New Prague Middle School. Dancers will wear the new TTPDA tank tops and PLAIN fitted black dance shorts for the Winter Show. Hair style will be left part, low messy bun near right side of dancer’s ear. Seating will be unassigned. Tickets will be $7 each !2015 Parade of Lights and will be available for purchase at Studio 12th Friday, December 4 @ 6:30pm Street (NPGC) on the following dates: To The Pointe! Dance Academy will have a float in Wednesday, October 28 4:30-5:30PM the Parade of Lights. All dancers should grab their Wednesday, November 4 4:30-6:30PM hats, mittens, scarves and jackets and join this great Wednesday, November 11 4:30-5:30PM New Prague holiday tradition. We are looking for parent volunteers to help with ticket sales, ushering, back stage, etc. at the show.     The Bluefield College Story Lighthouse on the Hill: Retired Senior Professor of History By: Rev. David M. Armbrister Resiliency! This is a word that aptly fits the story of Bluefield College. Financial issues have beset the school since its beginning, often giv- ing those directly associated with its operation, as well as those simply interested in its welfare, concern about its continuance as an education- al institution. If there had not been men and women of strong faith and characterized by their willingness to make great sacrifices, the college might not exist today. There would be no eighty-fifth anniversary celebration in 2007. We can be thankful for that band of men who made that trip to Bristol, Virginia in a day when travel was not easy. The enthusiasm and drive that they took with them established a model that others would follow in supporting a Baptist college and, initially, a fitting school equivalent to a high school for southwest Vir- ginia. The courage and determination that ac- companied their great belief that the school was in God’s plan continued to uplift and guide the institution through its early years. These same qualities and convictions have enabled the school to overcome its problems and emerge as one of Virginia’s leading institutions of higher learning today. The author of this work has sought to present this marvelous story in a manner that will cap- ture the unique spirit of this school and those who have been associated with it through the years. His prayer is that the story will awaken a new understanding of the service that the col- lege has rendered in its eighty-five years and provide the groundwork on which it can go for- ward in the years ahead.

The three- and four-finger chords that stomp. The fingernail-delicate tiptoeing up and down the keyboard, each touch a new sound. White keys. Black keys. One at a time. Chords all together. Two keys make a different sound than three played together. Four or five mashed at the same time is even better. I can do nine keys, even ten, to make a chord, but to be honest, that sounds weird. Each combination at the piano is different. Bass. Treble. Major tones. Minor wails. Bass like a celebration. Treble like tears. Five-four-three-two-one. One-two-three-four-five. Up. Up. Up. Down.
