Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree, and must have applied to their proposed institution of study by the time of application. Selection criteria include an outstanding academic record, professional potential, and the potential of the field of study to improve lives of women and girls in the country of origin. Preference is given to women residing in their home countries at the time of application.

Ford Foundation The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) provides opportunities for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use this to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide. To ensure that Fellows are drawn from diverse backgrounds, IFP will actively recruit candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. The International Fellowships Program provides support for up to three years of formal graduate-level study. Fellows will be selected from countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Russia, where the Ford Foundation maintains active overseas programs. U.S. Nationals are not eligible, although Fellows may study in the United States. Studies may be undertaken in any of the member States of the Organization of American States, with the exception of the country of which the candidate is a citizen or permanent resident. . Fellowships normally begin with the commencement of the academic year. Fellowships are granted initially for periods of up to twelve months. Fellowships may be extended upon request for a second period not greater than the initial period. In no case will a fellowship be extended for a total fellowship of more than two years. Fellowship, scholarship, and training award programs are managed by the Division of Human Development of the Department of Information Technology for Human Development, Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development.

Applicants must have a strong financial need of a scholarship. The Astrid G. Cates Scholarship ranges from $500 to $750, while the Myrtle Beinhauer Scholarship will be approximately $3,000. Grants awarded will be made jointly payable to student and institution of learning. A student can be awarded a maximum of two scholarships within a five-year period. The key criteria for final selection are : financial need, statement of education and career goals, grade-point average, letter of recommendation, and extracurricular involvement.
