Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Applicants must have earned the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree, and must have applied to their proposed institution of study by the time of application. Selection criteria include an outstanding academic record, professional potential, and the potential of the field of study to improve lives of women and girls in the country of origin. Preference is given to women residing in their home countries at the time of application. All applicants are required to have successfully completed an undergraduate degree program (typically four years) at a recognized college or university, a demonstrated commitment to audio engineering or a related field, supported by a written application and recommendations by at least two faculty members, acceptance or a pending application for graduate studies leading to a master’s or higher degree, or an internationally recognized equivalent. The fellowship may be held at the recipient’s home academic institution, the Charles Babbage Institute, or any other location where there are appropriate research facilities. The stipend is $10,000 plus up to $2,000 for tuition, fees, travel to the Charles Babbage Institute and relevant archives. It is intended for students who have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree except the research and writing of the dissertation. Applicants should be citizens of a member country of the Asian Development Bank and should have at least 2 years of work experience. To ensure that Fellows are drawn from diverse backgrounds, IFP will actively recruit candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education. The International Fellowships Program provides support for up to three years of formal graduate-level study. Fellows will be selected from countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Russia, where the Ford Foundation maintains active overseas programs. U.S. Nationals are not eligible, although Fellows may study in the United States. The Foundation currently works in 15 fields to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement. The program will provide placement assistance to those Fellows not yet admitted to graduate school. IFP support will enable Fellows to undertake short term language study and training in research and computer skills prior to graduate school enrollment. Ford Fellows must: Demonstrate excellence in their undergraduate studies and hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent, have experience in community service or development-related activities, pursue a post-baccalaureate degree that will directly enhance their leadership in an academic, policy, practical, or artistic discipline or field corresponding to one or more of the Foundation’s areas of endeavor, present a plan specifying how they will apply their studies to social problems or issues in their own countries, and commit themselves to working in these issues following the fellowship period.
