Nominated Member of the Indian Council of Historical Research since 2014. Meenakshi the daughter of eminent journalist Girilal Jain, legendary Editor of The Times of India. Girilal Jain (1924–1993), served as the Editor of The Times of India 1978– 1988. He was sympathetic to Hindu nationalism and authored books on the subject, the best known of which, The Hindu Phenomenon, was published alpix 0851B posthumously. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in Sandhya Jain 1989. MA Pol Sc Girilal Jain was born in a rural village some 50 miles (80 kilometres) south-east of Delhi, married Sudarshan in 1951. They had a son and three daughters, among whom are historian Meenakshi columnist Sandhya Jain. His son journalist Sunil Jain is presently Managing Editor of the Financial Express. He was earlier Editor Opinion of Business Standard and Business Editor of The Indian Express. He is co-author of the book Caste in a Different Mould. Sandhya Jain writes a fortnightly column for The Pioneer, New Delhi, and is Editor, www.vijayvaani.com. she is a writer of political and contemporary affairs. A postgraduate in Political Science from the University of Delhi, she is a student of the myriad facets of Indian civilisation. Her published works include Adi Deo Arya Devata. A Panoramic View of Tribal-Hindu Cultural Interface, (Rupa 2004); and Evangelical Intrusions. Tripura: A Case Study, (Rupa 2009). She has contributed to other publications, including a chapter on Jain Dharma in “Why I am a Believer : Personal Reflections on Nine World Religions,” ed. Arvind Sharma, (Penguin India, 2009).
