    SAMTRANS CORRESPONDENCE as of 12-11-2020 December 8, 2020 The Honorable Gavin Newsom Governor, State of California State Capitol, Suite 1173 Sacramento, CA 95814 Dear Governor Newsom: Bay Area transit systems continue to struggle in the face of dramatically reduced ridership and revenues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This challenge was already the most significant crisis in the history of public transportation, and now it has persisted far longer than any of us would have predicted. Since the beginning, our workers have been on the front lines, doing their jobs as essential workers, responsible for providing other front line workers with a way to safely travel to and from essential jobs. Now that the availability of a vaccine is on the horizon, we are proud to echo the attached call from the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU). Specifically, we urge you to work to ensure that transit, paratransit, and school transportation workers are prioritized along with other essential workers to receive the vaccine following the critical need to vaccinate the State’s healthcare workers. Even with reduced ridership, an average of 8 million monthly riders continue to depend on Bay Area transit services. These riders are the healthcare workers, grocery clerks, caregivers, emergency services personnel and others doing the critical work that has kept California functioning during the pandemic. They cannot continue to do so without access to reliable public transportation, and are therefore dependent on the health of the transit workers that serve them every day. Our agencies have worked hard to ensure the public health of riders and transit workers during this crisis.

I look to see who is happy, but they only sit quietly.” Who: Participating in the re-opening ceremonies will be actual immigrant detainees who were held at Angel Island between 1910 – 1940, along with state, federal, local officials and the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation. What: For the first time following the extensive restoration, all areas of the detention barracks will be open to the public. The centerpiece of this re-opening is the nearly 200 poems of disappointment and struggle carved into the barracks walls. Most are Chinese, but there are writings by Japanese, Koreans, Europeans and Russians as well. These stories now come alive more vividly than ever before. When: February 15, 2009 -- 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 0830 – Press Boat departs from Tiburon Ferry terminal for Angel Island State Park 1000 -- Press opportunity with dignitary tour of barracks building 1030 – Ceremony commemorating the reopening 1130 – Signing ceremony symbolizing the United States Immigration Station Register 1145 -- Lion dance and ribbon cutting, followed by public tours. 1230 -- Return to Tiburon for those on deadline, later boats available. Abstract (Limit: 250 words) The Transit Service Frequency App hosts stop- and alignment-level service frequency data from 559 transit providers around the globe who have published route and schedule data in the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) format through the TransitFeeds website, a global GTFS clearinghouse. Stop- and alignment-level service frequency is defined as the total number of transit routes and transit trips passing through a specific alignment segment or a specific stop location. Alignments are generalized and stops nearby stops aggregated. The app makes data easily accessible through visualization and download tools.
