Biodiesel is considered as potential alternative to regular fossil fuels to reduce emission in compromise with in the engine performance. To overcome this conflict in this research, we have studied the effect of using oxygenated fuel such as 2-Ethoxy Ethanol and 2- Methoxy Methanol with diesel as additive and the emission parameters of the engine such as Carbon monoxide, smoke, Hydrocarbons, Carbon Monoxide and Oxides of Nitrogen emissions are studied in detail. The results shows the reduction in smoke by 50% at lower speeds a further continues to reduce till 28% at higher RPMs. Similarly HC emission also showed reduced numbers from 44.22 ppm to 23.61 ppm at low speeds and 20.87 ppm to 7.35 ppm at high speeds. There was similar trend found in CO and CO2 emission. The oxygen present in the additive aim to increase in the NOx emission from 32 ppm to 36 ppm in low speeds and 15 ppm to 16 ppm at high speeds. -
Eco-Hydrology and Chemical Pollution of Western Ghats
Eco-hydrology and Chemical Pollution of Western Ghats Dr.Mathew Koshy M..Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. Reader and Research Guide in Chemistry, Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara.Kerala Eco-hydrology Eco-hydrology is a new integrative science that involves finding solutions to issues surrounding water, people, and the environment. One of the fundamental concepts involved in eco-hydrology is that the timing and availability of freshwater is intimately linked to ecosystem processes, and the goods and services provided by fresh waters to societies. This means that emphasis is placed on the hydrological cycle and its effects on ecological processes and human well-being. Limnology Limnology is the science that deals with the physical, chemical and biological properties and features of fresh waters. A professional who studies fresh water systems is a limnologist. Lotic System: The lotic environment is consisting of all inland waters in which entire water body continually flows in a definite direction. etc. rivers streams. Lentic system: The lentic environment has been including all inland waters in which water has been not continually flowing in a definite direction. Standing waters Western Ghats The Western Ghats hill range extends along the west coast of India, covering an area of 160,000 square kilometers. The presence of these hills creates major precipitation gradients that strongly influence regional climate, hydrology and the distribution of vegetation types and endemic plants. Biodiversity Although the total area is less than 6 percent of the land area of India, the Western Ghats contains more than 30 percent of all plant, fish, fauna, bird, and mammal species found in India. -

ABSTRACT This study was mainly done to access the distributional pattern of megachiropterans in the plains of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts of Tamilnadu, South India. Three species of megachiropterans ie., C. sphinx, R. leschenaulti and P. giganteus was observed to present in this area. On evaluating the species richness, Tirunelveli district was observed to have a higher value (C. sphinx Dmg = 1.497 , R. leschenaulti Dmg = 0.724 and P. giganteus Dmg = 0.609) than that of the other two districts. THE JOURNAL OF INDOLOGICAL STUDIES Volume-I || Issue-I Appeasing Sastha : V. Aravind Subramanyam ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Appeasing Sastha : Theory Text And Practice Of Sastha Preethi In South India Shri Maha Sasthru Priya Dasan V. Aravind Subramanyam, (Sastha Aravind) President, Shri Maha Sasthru Seva Sangam Thejovathy, 94 B, Third Street, Tatabad, Coimbatore 641012 Ph:(0)99946 41801 Email: [email protected] Sabarimalai Yatra, Ayyappa Pooja and Sasthapreethi are the three, most well known events that please the Kaliyuga Varadha Swami Shree Dharma Sastha. For a Ayyappa devotee the chanting of the celebrated three words is everything - " Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa" – Oh Lord Ayyappa, I come to Thee for refuge. The high and low meet on equal terms in the presence of the Lord who is known as Dharmasastha – one who teaches and upholds dharma. Sasthapreethi is a time tested mode of worshipping Lord Dharmasastha in a very religious way by various samoohams and organizations in and around Kerala, and now in all parts of the country and abroad. The religious pooja is given more importance followed by Annadhanam. One should not confuse Sastha Preethi with Ayyappa puja or Sabarimalai Yatra; Sastha Preethi in a unique and different form of worship which has its own methods and procedures. Origin : The spreading of Sastha Preethi as a cult (other than Kallidaikurichi) dates back to three centuries. Over 300 years ago a handful of enterprising men, started from a village called Kallidaikurichi,(Tirunelveli district). Their aim was to establish some business and improve their material prospects. The Karandhaiyar palayam Samooham (of Kallidaikurichi) situated on the banks of river Thamirabarani, was the origin of a concept called Sastha Preethi.
