It is one of the most convenient and sustainable ways to experience Melbourne, as well as a lot of fun. The Bicycle Plan 2012-2016 builds upon the work started during the 1980s to link comfortable and convenient bicycle routes across Greater Melbourne. We are continuing to invest in bicycle facilities and programs as Melbourne moves closer to becoming a city for people, a connected city and an eco-city. Today a significant number of Melburnians are riding bikes. Melburnians take about 81,500 bike trips in the municipality each week day and more than 29,000 trips on the weekend. Although numbers continue to grow, there is still more that needs to be done if we are to realise our target of more than 122,000 daily bicycle trips by 2016. -

Victorian Government Printer Road Safety Act 1986 ROAD SAFETY (VEHICLES) REGULATIONS 1999 Class 2 Notice – Specifi cation of Routes for B-double and Conditional Exemption of Longer B-doubles from Certain Dimension Limits 1. Purpose To specify the areas, highways and routes that a B-double may travel in or on, and to specify a conditional exemption for longer B-doubles from certain dimension limits. 2. Authorising provision This Notice is made under Clause 11 of Schedule 2 and Regulation 510 of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999. 3. Commencement This Notice comes into operation on the date of its publication in the Government Gazette. 4. Revocation The Notice published in Government Gazette No. S321 of 7 December 2007 is revoked. 5. Expiration This Notice expires on 15 December 2013. 6. Defi nitions In this Notice– ‘Regulations’ means the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1999. ‘Approval Plate’ means a decal, label or plate issued by a Competent Entity that is made of a material and fi xed in such a way that it cannot be removed without being damaged or destroyed and that contains at least the following information: a) Manufacturer or Trade name or mark of the Front Underrun Protection Vehicle, or Front Underrun Protection Device, or prime mover in the case of cabin strength, or protrusion as appropriate; b) In the case of a Front Underrun Protection Device or protrusion, the make of the vehicle or vehicles and the model or models of vehicle the component or device has been designed and certifi ed to fi t; c) Competent Entity unique identifi cation number; d) In the case of a Front Underrun Protection Device or protrusion, the Approval Number issued by the Competent Entity; and e) Purpose of the approval, e.g. -

Yarra River Bridges – Engineering History and Heritage Speaker: Ken McInnes Adjunct Teaching Fellow, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, Swinburne University of Technology [email protected] OVERVIEW: The Yarra River is the focal point of Melbourne. An ancient basalt lava flow flowed down parts of the ancient Yarra valley. The river carved a new channel in the softer rock to the south, and fresh water flowed over the lava barrier at “The Falls” near today’s Queens Street Bridge, into a deep saltwater pool. It then flowed through the flood plains to the south at Albert Park, or to the West Melbourne Lagoon and swamps, where it joined the Saltwater (now Maribyrnong) River. This place was the rich hunting grounds of the Wurundjeri people, and from 1803, with good water, timber and grazing, it was a desirable place for a European settlement - “the place for a city”. From its beginnings to a large metropolis, engineers have applied “the art of directing the great sources of power in nature for the use and convenience of man”. This tour will explore some of our engineering history and heritage along the Yarra River. (For more information refer to the attached.) I Your Ref: Our Ref: I THE RICHMOND URBAN CONSERVATION STUDY I The completion of this Conservation Study hereby represents a significant milestone for Richmond. I commend it to you and 1 endorse its recommendations in principle. I use the term "in principle" because the Conservation Study is just one part of an overall strategy plan being proposed for I Richmond. This means that conservation controls will be considered in the wider context of other matters just as economic development, housing, traffic management and the like. There will inevitably be conflicting objectives and these must be 1 reconciled by Council, in due course, after extensive public consultation. I It seems that controls over the preservation of our built heritage are almost always "too late", no matter when they are introduced. Nevertheless, I believe we have done the best job within the I available resources and that the release of the Study is timely, given the increasing pressure for large scale redevelopment that Richmond is experiencing. I Council is grateful to the National Estates Committee, the Historic Buildings Council and the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works in providing funding for the Study. Undoubtedly credit I is due to the consultants who have done a superb job and to our Urban Conservation Advisory Committee for guidance and overall direction. I I look forward to the implementation of the Study and its impact on Richmond.
