If elected to be a cheerleader, there are specific responsibilities which your son/daughter must assume in order to qualify for and to remain an active member of the team. After reading the attached constitution and fully understanding the rules and regulations which govern this program, and after your child has a complete understanding of his/her responsibilities, please complete the electronic form to digitally sign. Being a member of the Cheerleading Team has many rewards and is a valuable experience they will remember for a lifetime. ORGANIZATION Initials: _____ a. The purpose of the SPHS Pep Squad is to: a. Create school spirit, pride and loyalty. b. Develop responsibility, teach self-respect, encourage honest effort, strive for perfection and develop character. c. Teach teamwork and pride in a quality performance through maintaining high standards. d. Promote interest in school activities and perform at school functions. e. Participate in community events and community service. b. Coaches are responsible for: a. … the daily running and activities of JV and Varsity teams b. … administering all disciplinary procedures c. The Coaches may place certain restrictions on team members. c. The SPHS Pep Squad Season consists of the following: a. Spring – Tryouts and Team Fundraising b. Summer – Camp and Curriculum c. Fall – Football, Volleyball, and Tennis d. Winter – Basketball, Soccer, Wrestling and Water polo d. Athletic credits may be issued upon completion of the entire athletic season at the discretion of the Coaches and/or Athletic Director based on participation and performance evaluation. e. The SPHS Pep Squad eligible athletes will participate in the school-wide Winter Sports Banquet upon completion of the entire Pep Squad Season. II. ELIGIBILITY Initials: _____ a. Each member must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. a. Quarter 3 (try-outs) b. Semester 2 (summer camp & curriculum) c. Quarter 1 (Fall Season Sports) d. Semester 1 (Winter Season Sports) b. Each member must submit the following before try-outs:: a. SPHS Pep Squad Application/Parent Release form & signature page b. SPHS Pep Squad Teacher Referral Form c. On-line Athletic Clearance & signature page III. MEDICAL Initials: _____ 5 a. Due to the current situation, sports physicals are due prior to the commencement of practice and waived for tryouts only. Each athlete must have a complete sports physical exam before the official start of season. b. Pre-existing medical conditions must be disclosed by the athlete prior to try-outs including braces, wraps, or other physical support. c. Athletes must also have a completed medical emergency form submitted through the on-line athletic clearance (www.sphsathletics.org). IV. CHARACTER Initials: _____ a. The Cardinal Code of Conduct and all school rules must be followed. b. Team members should be leaders within the school and set a good example at all times. c. Team members should be above reproach maintaining good personal appearance and habits that cannot be criticized. d. Smoking, drinking and/or drug use are grounds for suspension or dismissal by the Coach.

My name is Elizabeth Kristen and I am a lawyer and the Project Director of the Title IX K-12 Equality Project at \ the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC). I am testifying on behalf of my own organization as well as on behalf of the California Women's Law Center, our partner in working on Title IX issues in California high schools. The Legal Aid Society is a private, non-profit public interest law firm. Founded in 1916, the Society represents persons of color, women, recent immigrants, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and the working poor and their families in challenges to discriminatory or otherwise impermissible employment and educational access practices. The California Women's Law Center, founded in 1989, is a private, non-profit advocacy and support center, dedicated to ensuring that life opportunities for women and girls are free from unjust social, economic, and political constraints. I am pleased to be here today to speak about equality for girls in athletics, particularly in high school sports.
