Friday 11/10 No School for Veteran’s Day Observance Feeling the crunch of time? Here are some 8 Time Management Tips cont’d (from Collegeboard.org “8 Ways to Take Control of Your Time”) 5) Create a dedicated study time – Set up a time devoted only to studding or homework. Shut off your pone and respond to calls or texts when your work is finished. Don’t check email or surf the Web (except when you need to for the work you are doing) during this time either. 6) Budget your time- Figure out how much time you usually spend on your activities and then create a weekly schedule to follow. Determine how much free time you have before you add any commitments. And don’t forget to schedule time to relax. 7) Don’t get sidetracked – If you find yourself wasting time on unimportant things, stop, check your to-do list and get back to what’s at the top. Maybe you’re procrastinating because you’re not sure how to move forward on a school project. If that’s the problem, check with your teacher to clear things up so you can get moving. 8) Get a good night’s sleep – Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. If it’s time to sleep, list the things you still need to get done on the next day’s to-do list and go to bed. Hope this helps you get a better handle on getting homework done. .

My name is Elizabeth Kristen and I am a lawyer and the Project Director of the Title IX K-12 Equality Project at \ the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC). I am testifying on behalf of my own organization as well as on behalf of the California Women's Law Center, our partner in working on Title IX issues in California high schools. The Legal Aid Society is a private, non-profit public interest law firm. Founded in 1916, the Society represents persons of color, women, recent immigrants, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and the working poor and their families in challenges to discriminatory or otherwise impermissible employment and educational access practices. The California Women's Law Center, founded in 1989, is a private, non-profit advocacy and support center, dedicated to ensuring that life opportunities for women and girls are free from unjust social, economic, and political constraints. I am pleased to be here today to speak about equality for girls in athletics, particularly in high school sports. First, I would like to thank the Chair of the Committee, Assembly Member Karnette as well as Assembly Members Strickland and Swanson for holding this hearing on an issue of critical importance to my clients and me. I also would like to thank Dana Mitchell, Chief Consultant to the Committee for inviting me.
