To Migrant Speech State Champion! Elena Magana Rodriguez competed in the 8th Annual State Speech & Debate Tournament in Visalia, CA. A total of 20 migrant regions and Elena proudly represented Region 17, Ventura County. Her speeches covered topics such as lack of adequate health care, national security, and civil rights. This year she placed in the following categories: 9th Grade Spanish Prepared Speech- 1st Place and 9th Grade Extemporaneous Spanish Speech- 2nd Place Thanks to Mrs. Ramirez and Mrs. Bravo-Garcia for their support and coaching. Congrats Elena!! + All SPARC Cardinals make plans to attend the last SPARC Meeting Wednesday, 5/9 in rm. 513 during lunch. Members must attend to close out the school year. + Attention! My name is Elizabeth Kristen and I am a lawyer and the Project Director of the Title IX K-12 Equality Project at \ the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center (LAS-ELC). I am testifying on behalf of my own organization as well as on behalf of the California Women's Law Center, our partner in working on Title IX issues in California high schools. The Legal Aid Society is a private, non-profit public interest law firm. Founded in 1916, the Society represents persons of color, women, recent immigrants, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and the working poor and their families in challenges to discriminatory or otherwise impermissible employment and educational access practices. The California Women's Law Center, founded in 1989, is a private, non-profit advocacy and support center, dedicated to ensuring that life opportunities for women and girls are free from unjust social, economic, and political constraints.
